agreed. *WOOF. *These things got a big name by being used by a bunch of guys who daisy-chained them into tremendous rigs. *If I toss in a Danelectro Phaser into
Jimi Hendrix
's rig, it would still sound ok. *That doesn't make the Phaser good.

I've got one. *It's useful if you are looking for a big fuzz sound, particularly on the fat strings. *David Gilmour of
Pink Floyd
is the only person I can think of who uses one exclusively. *Don't believe what people say here (including me) until you try one.

The Big Muff has its uses...but it's quite limited for my taste. *Keep in mind that not all Big Muffs are created equal...several different model/issues.
BTW-I think Gilmour uses a few other distortion devices.

There is no way Gilmour uses a Big Muff exclusively. Big Muffs sound like tractor trailors, whereas his tone is pretty sporty now and then. *The weird trancy stuff might be where the Muff appears.

The Big Muff is a fuzz pedal. Better... it's a "fuzztortion" pedal (something between distortion and fuzz). *Ideal for those fuzzy power chords and violin-like soloing. It's too noisy in extreme setups, though. I had a vintage one (not the reissue) and it was very good for some kinds of sound. If your business is Vai-like or metal, stay away from these, please.

I meant exclusively as a fuzz but yes, come to think of it, it seems like he uses some fuzz boxes custom made by Pete Cornish. *Not sure how often he kicks these in. *However, I do know for a fact that Comfortably was recorded using a Big Muff.

If you want an example of what the big ****
can do for soloing, listen to the solo in "Firth of Fifth" by Genesis. *It's just a
Gibson Les Paul
-->Volume Pedal-->Big Muff-->Amp (not sure what kind). *Hope that helps!

I love the big muff!! As long as I'm not the one using it. In my old band it was great because the other guitarist would use it and I would cut threw him like a katana through a stick of butter!!
heh heh...
