Bill Lawrence pickups?

Hi - I am in the process of replacing my pickups in my rg550. *I have decided to go with the Bill Lawrence L-500XL for the bridge. *Also, going to get rid of the middle single coil and switch over to 3-way switching. *Looking for pickup suggestions for the neck position. *I was originally going to go with a duncan jazz for the neck but was wondering if anyone has put any other bill lawrence pu in the neck, maybe another L-500XL??

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance,

jeff

can't help you on recommendations but make sure you buy direct from Bill Lawerence(and they aren't expensive) and not StewMac or anyone else........ they as you might know are cheap knockoffs if they aren't direct from the man himself(well him and Becky)...

BL single coils have a stellar reputation, especially for the price, on the Fender Forum (gulp, did I say that?)...I'd imagine their buckers are nice too.

Alex Lifeson swears by Bill Lawrence L500 Humbuckers. *He's used those in his guitars for a long time. *He also uses a brand called Evans.

I think both Dimebag from Pantera and Nuno Bettencourt both use the Duncan 59 in the neck position on their signature guitars which are equipped with the Lawrence at the bridge. I'd start there

On some of the old Pantera footage I've seen Darrel has another L500 type pickup in the neck.

Thanks so far - I was actually wanting to get a bill lawrence pu for the neck just because i would be ordering the xl-500, more for convenience than anything. *Otherwise i might just for the jazz.

thanks

OK - Then yes, I've seen it done on early Pantera footage I've never tried it myself though. I personally wouldn't order the XL for the neck. Maybe put a regular L500 there, and the L500XL in the bridge for a greater output?

i've got a washburn dime with a BL on it ...
well, i suggest you to try before buy, this pickup is really agressive *and sound very very metal and bright

Personnaly, i like but i know that a lot of people think it's a noisy and cold pickup...

The L500XL is kinda rough for the neck position. My main guitars when I do shows with my band are Jackson King V Pro's. They are the first Dave Mustaine signatures that came out, and they come with that pickup in the neck. I usually take them out and go with Duncan 59's or Dimarzio Paf Pro's. I tend to like a more rounded sound in the neck. The Jazz also does quite well...but the Lawrence is pretty harsh for a neck. Obviously your own ears must judge though!
