billy duffy+the cult sound, new+old tone help please?

I really love billy duffy from the The Cult's sound. He older sound was great. His sounds on their album Beyond Good and Evil from 2001 was a little different but I really loved that too. BGE had a heavier hard rock sound to me then the earlier albums. Basicly I would like some help in getting a similar sound, not dead on cuz I don't want to copy the guy but I would like to start with something similar and mold it how i want. I would like help getting both the newer tone and the older tone.
I know from a Guitar One mag that he used a couple gibson les paul customs, gold top and a gretsch falcon for guitars. I just picked up two les pauls since I felt my collection was lacky them so that should be taken care of. For amps his equipment list was listed as 4 JCM 800 heads, 2 mesa rectifiers, 2 roland jc-120 and a couple other litle things. The effects listed was full of boss pedals a tube screamer and a rockman XPR processor.
I really have no idea what he used on previous older albums and I'm having no luck finding out really. Any help on the old sound would be great.
Now here is the thing I have plenty of guitars and don't have a problem dropping money on them but amps like that are another thing. I live in a apartment and don't even play my 65 watt peavy amp hardly cuz I don't want to disturb people so what I need to do is get some good advice on some multi fx boards/modelers to use and i'll mainly be playing from headphones. I want some advice on which units or pedals would be able to get the best sounds for those particular amps. Also since it was listed that he used 6 amps for the album would it be logical to assume that most tracks have both the rectifer and the JCM mixed together for the sound? I start to get confused when people have that many amps for a cd.

****So basicly anybody that felt like reading all of that I just want some help finding tones like duffy's to start from and reasonably priced equipment that won't wake people up. Normaly I read tons of articles, mags and i'm always learning about equipment and such but i'm getting tired of searching so much for this and would just like some help. Thanks.

If you cannot crank that JCM 800 that you need (you do need it) Then get a pod or other modeling amp that has a jcm800 or 80's UK amp on it. The vox valvetronix does a nice jcm 800. I have an early 80's JCM 800 so I am not just guessing on the vox

I like the Cult & the songs they did bro!- i still do them in a cover band & let me say down here in Australia people always request Cult & AC/DC songs,- Billy D's sound is diffrent on the B G & E cd compared to the earlyer stuff he did mostly because he used guitars that are tuned down, your on the right track using a JCM 800, the picups in his guitars are Duncan Distortions, when you tune your guitar down these pickups pump out that sound you want off the B G&E cd, it's a good idear to have a LesPaul to do the song's, you mention you needed effects so you could practice& not upset people, i found that a BOSS GT5 works good for doing Billy D's sound & you can detune from the effects board with out to much fuss, some here on Jemsite may not agree but i have found that the BOSS GT5 is good for doing the Billy D's Sound, & it works good for smaller amps or headphones, i do have a number of effects peddels & other stuff - but i found that the BOSS GT5 can get those sounds your after for doing the B G&E or older songs , if your using 2 amps run them clean & hook them up to the BOSS GT5.

Good Luck bro!- Jake
