So I didnt like the MXR Chorus thru my
Egnater. So today I returned it for something completely different.
On Saturday a friend of mine and I went for a long overdue trip to
Guitar Center! I eyed the Black Star Pedals. I tried the High Gain one and it was pretty cool but not cool enough to take home. It was totally voiced for metal tones and thats not really the tone Im after. Plus my friend talked me out of it. So 2 days later I decided to go back and try the other ones out. I started with the booster and went up in gain stages from there. They all were really great sounding. They all did what they said they were going to do. And all priced under $200.00 which is nice. So I finally came to the HT Dual Drive 2 channel version. I really really liked this one. Its lower in gain than the highest one which is good cause the clarity was lacking some with that one due to the mad amount of gain on tap. So after about 30 min of playing with my common settings I decided to return the chorus and use the credit and get the HT Dual. I got to work and fired it up thru my Roland Cube 60. And usually pedals sound crappy thru this amp. This one was quite good! The fact that it actually has a real tube in it and not just an orange light like some pedals have, really made a difference!!!! So I got home and played it thru the Egnater and it really smokes!!!!! This is a great pedal for rock and blues. Nice and smooth leads or crunchy rhythm sounds depending on your settings. Id say you could do metal with it but you would need some Blackouts or EMGS probably, which I dont have. I think I may upgrade the cheap stock Sovtech tube to a JJs Gold Pin for some added warmth. But I just thought Id post a thread about this pedal since there has been some talk about the HT5 head. I didnt like the head that much. It was kinda tinny sounding. The full size amps are great tho!!!! If you are looking for a good tube driven pedal to light a fire under your amps ass check out the Black Star pedals.
Here is a good demo of one below......
(the recording quality of the video is ok. Its enough to get a good idea of its tones).
