12BH7 is still not that hard to find. There are a few amps using them EHX have them, and as long as Blackstar are making HT-5s I'm sure manufacturers will be making 12BH7s.

Still it needs to be gig/practice oriented without the roof part ..
I came across some amps ..I'll comment in the end of the thread and probably all hell will break loose

The HT5 is so much louder than the HT1. They're voiced similarly, so basically what you're getting is an HT1 with an EQ stage, and....louder. So you don't get any tube saturation at low volumes. But still, sounds very similar, but can be made to sound better.
I also found that the HT1 and HT5's either sound dark and muddy, or crisp and crunchy depending on the speakers you're using. My preference is Celestion Vintage 30's. Nice and crunchy. On the flipside, Celestion Heritage sound like flub and mud with the HT1. Can dial some of that out with the HT5 though.
If you like the HT1, you'll like the HT5.
I've tested ht1 on a 4x12 .. ;D then I met Gus from Firewind
hehehe
It's that good

Re: BLACKSTAR HT-5R, HT STUDIO 20, H&K TUBE.18
Everyone I appreciate all your feedback - but I'm afraid I made my mind ..
As much as I love the feel and the sound of tube amps (And I mean good tube amps not some cheap crap) , as much as I like the ht-5 combo and head with matched with some decent cabinets, i'm afraid I cannot crank it in my apartment - its an old building with quite thin walls, i cannot buy a tube amp.
My choice is - prprprrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrdum *drum sound
FENDER MUSTANG V + 4x12 . Ok before all hell comes loose now , and i know modeler amps cannot and will not sound anything like the real thing, I'm going to buy this ONLY because It has some neat cleans , distortion needs allot of tweaking dough and some OD pedals before the amp line etc. However- I'll be saving allot of money on pedal effects. It's 150w + cabiner = and most of all it sounds good on low volume (which is what I need)
I'm still skeptical about it ... I do think blackstar is a better choice - soundwise.. but It's too expensive.
Any opinions about it?

Re: BLACKSTAR HT-5R, HT STUDIO 20, H&K TUBE.18
I've had the Tubemeister 18 for a couple of weeks now and I LOVE IT!! Still just using the redbox straight into the soundcard and play with headphones and it still blows me away. Cleans are great and distortion is very versatile. Handles everything from light crunch to heavy leads. Havn't had time to get my old pedals from storage to try it, but i can't say i missed them so far.
I'm about to order a 1x12 cab with an Eminence Private Jack speaker that i will get in a couple of weeks so i can't comment on how it plays on low volumes. But from comments i've heard from others, it's supposed to do very good, and it's supposed to be VERY loud on 18 watts.
For home use and small gigs? I can't think of anything better right now.

Congrats on your choice and I think anything that sounds good, is good. That said, 4x12 when you said you're worried about volume in an old building with thin walls? Seems a bit overkill but if you dig it, good on you.

4x12 will be used for gigs
I have a custom marshall 1x10 cab for home use
- the price on thins head+cabinet costs like a used mesa 4x12 cabinet

Re: BLACKSTAR HT-5R, HT STUDIO 20, H&K TUBE.18
I have the HT-5 combo. For a bedroom and home recording the sound is still impressively huge... so much so I'm nowhere near turning it up full volume. Clean tones are excellent and the overdrive is crunchy. The distortion wasn't quite enough for me (depending on what I play), so I got the HT-Blackfire aswell. Nice combination.

Re: BLACKSTAR HT-5R, HT STUDIO 20, H&K TUBE.18
Updated Status - So far I was not sure if this was a good timing for deciding on my tube amp . ht5r combo or head with different cabs that I use sounds great but I'm looking for a larger variation of sound combinations and after reading allot, finally I tested out MUSTANG IV. I got tricked thinking it was a tube amp. 65 reverb, bassman, etc sounded just great. (blues tone I was looking for)
And the price was so appealing. So.. Yeah, Got it today, sounds great after some tweaking- took me 2-3 days to adjust some tones. Looking forward gigging + extension cabs.
I'm impressed ( for the price)
...
So tnx all.

If you are happy with it, then congrats
I tried a variety of solutions in my sound, and only really got satisfied after I got the HT-50. For me the main thing is not having to tweak the sound anymore, at all. Just plug and start playing.

If you only knew how I wish everything was that simple.
Most of the time is IMPOSIBRU.
Other times its just "shut up and take my money" or whatever is left from money - mustang iv does sound great. Not Amazing or anything, its all digital but hey - digital firmwire can update so for personal sake - its all good to me

Re: BLACKSTAR HT-5R, HT STUDIO 20, H&K TUBE.18
i owned blackstar HT-5 head cab and it simply sound amazing for the distortion area.. actually, if it's possible, just buy the head only and then get a 2x12 cab..
unfortunately it comes in bundle here in Indonesia (head+cab) so i stuck with the 1x10 cab that comes with it.. not really like it but still not bad also..
