blending two different amps?
First off, I'd like to get another 1x12"
combo amp
to use with my Peavey XXX in stereo for stereo effects and such. Now, I like the sound of the XXX but its not exactly the tone i had in my head before i got it. Would it be stupid to use a different brand amp (marshall, fender, etc.) with the Peavey for left and right? Would stereo reverbs and delays sound good through two different type amps? Also, what about mixing the two amps when recording and then adding effects to the track (thru like a g-major etc.)? I read that
Steve Vai
mixed like 6 amps together throughout ALS. I'm just looking for a 'complete' sound that sounds great clean or driven. Thanks, Jon

I have been running A Soldano Decatone and
Marshall TSL
in stereo for years. They both sound good on their own but together the sound is huge.

Re: blending two different amps?
Thats awesome. Any particular amp that would compliment the XXX? It has pretty good cleans and a ton of gain (I keep it at 4 on both OD channels) but like a 'fuzzy monotone' gain i guess.

Re: blending two different amps?
Blending two different amps can be weird. It doesn't always work as well as you think it will. Even with two good sounding amps. Something about the frequencies. But it's worth a try. But dragging one amp around to the gigs is enough for me.

Re: blending two different amps?
I've used a two-amp setup for a while. My old rig blended an ADA MP-1 and a
Marshall JMP
-1 through a Marshall EL84 20/20. My current rig blends a Hughes &
Kettner Triamp
MK II with a Hughes & Kettner Trilogy. They run to two different 4x12's with different speakers--the Trilogy runs into Vintage 30's and the TriAmp runs into Heritage 30's. SMASHING!

Re: blending two different amps?
thats a cool device... would need something like that after getting the 2nd amp. Any more advice on using a different 2nd amp? Or should I get another triple XXX?

Get something else, but complementary, like a Soldano, or a JCM 800, or that sort of thing - this way not only will you get stereo spread, but you will double your arsenal of recording sounds!

Re: blending two different amps?
Here's what I'm combining with the Lehle.
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...m777/stack.jpg
I'm using a Furman SPB-8C pedalboard with the setup, which took some experimenting to incorporate.
In the end, I just ended up bypassing the patch bay on the pedalboard completely. I'm just using the
Furman as a power supply for the pedals and as a platform to have everything mounted on.
The Lehle is awesome, but very simple. There's an input, two outputs and an AC adapter plugin.

Re: blending two different amps?
I just experimented by using my XXX and a fender solid state princeton together via a stereo
chorus pedal
turned off. It sounded ok; i'm sure it would sound better with a better amp, but it was interesting. My biggest concerns are 1. how would the effects from a g-system sound coming out of the two and 2. how would u switch amps with the g-system if one amp had 3 channels and the other amp had 2?

That's pretty much why custom
switching systems
exist
That setup would be slighly more complicated to condense. A GCX switcher & Ground control Pro would help to a degree, But...that would kinda of defeat the purpose of having a G-System. I think the G-System only has (4) relays, doesn't it? In that case, depending on what kind of connections the amp's footswitches have, you should be able to do SOME channel switching (kinda out of luck on the 3-channel setup though).

Re: blending two different amps?
One easy way to do it is to split your signal in your effects loop such as with a stereo delay or a processor. Send one lead back into your regular amps loop return, and the other lead to a separate amps loop return. Now you can get true stereo delay and whatnot.
I used to run my rack in stereo through a set of 2X12's and it was awesome. I'm currently running through my Marshall 4X12 but am planning on selling it to buy two avatar 2X12s.
