Hey gang,
Anyone have any opinions about the various booster pedals on the market? I need something I can step on when I switch guitars, since I have one with EMGs (very high output) and others with much lower output passive pickups (assorted Ibanez and strat things). This has always been a problem for me live. I don't want to have to tinker with the
preamp gain on my Boogie everytime I grab a different guitar.
So I've been curious about the ZVex SHO and Super Duper 2-for-1; the Klon Centaur; and the Prescription Electronics unit (can't recall the name). There is also one by Zoom (PD-01 Power Driver) which is apparently very un-Zoom like, in that it's analog and built like a tank (also way cheaper than the boutique jobbies). I've also thought about an outboard EQ (like the Boss EQ-20), or just a regular
overdrive pedal (like a DS-1, TS-9 or similar), but those are likely to color my tone more than I want for this application. But I suppose I could keep the drive full off, and just crank up the gain on a pedal.
So any thoughts on the gazillion different boost pedals floating around? Basically I just want something to even out the huge difference when I bust a string and grab a different guitar than whatever I meant to use for a tune.
Thanks,
Bert
