Boss DD20 Giga Delay vs...........

I just got a Giga Delay and am very impressed with it. I wasn't able to A/B it with all the delays I wanted (only so many in the store) but I liked it better than the Line 6 unit and the delays from the Boss GT-6 multi effects board.

How do you guys think the other delays out there compare (including vintage)? I am still not 100% sure I am going to keep it, but it has a lot going for it. Among them, on the "Warp" delay setting, I can get some of the hottest, most scarifying lead sounds I have ever heard anywhere. This setting is really intense. I haven't sorted through all the options yet, but there are lots of them. For me, it's all about having a couple of really good delays with the ability to tweak, not necessarily millions of combos.

I love the overall sounds of the DD20, but I can't seem to get a totally clean very high gain delay, extra distortion always seems to be there. That distortion actually sounds great for a certain effect, but I would like to be able to have a perfectly clean delay as well.

I don't think there's a floor-mount delay box that can beat the Yamaha UD-Stomp. It doesn't have any "models", just 8 separate delays, up to 686ms (I think) each, each one has individual panning, level, time, low cut, high cut, modulation (speed, depth and wave) and tap time. You can sum delays together to get longer times, run delays in series or parallel, tap tempo on any band or combination of bands...

Essentially you can make reverbs, delays, flangers, choruses, some odd tremolo-like noises... the best FX based sitar sound I've heard came from one.

Plus it's chuffin' enormous and a lovely shade of blue.

I have a DD20. I love it. It's surprisingly good on batteries considering the nature of the beast. I love the way it sounds-I've had no problems. It's a great standalone unit and very versatile.

You should check out a now-discontinued Korg 301DL - nice Hi-Fi and Lo-Fi effects and very well built. You can probably get a reasonable price on a used one.

i have the DD20 as well and i swear by it. i work at a music store and try almost everything that comes around and i'm very satisfied with it. you can loop up to 23 sec and then play over it. it has dual delays (EVH used this trick A LOT!) and among many other features it will save four presets that you can access very easily. i'm having fun ending my "solo" using the WARP effect and sending my sound out into space and back with the touch of a button (ala Yngwie) without using my hands! i could go on and on, but won't. if you can get a good deal on one- buy it!!

Actually I noticed I can get a very clean high gain delay with the power supply hooked up, more so than with the batteries. I am hooked on the Standard and especially WARP modes, they are very musical effects, not just noise like some of the other delays I tried before buying the DD20. I am very into this thing now!! I also just got a MXR Phase 90+, very cool and simple unit. Again, the MXR is very musical, which counts for a lot to me.

Lots of the effects you hear from these big racks, etc. have shock value in the music store, but don't seem as great after you listen at home a few times.

the Phase 90 is a MUST for a pedal board! between the Phase 90 and my Boss V-wah (i use mostly for the Uni-vibe setting) i get the majority of my coolest sounds (ala EVH, Hendrix, Clapton, ect.). the DD20 just helps give "depth" and "dimesion" to my sound that is extremely complimentary.

Does anyone have a problem with (not intentional) infinite sustained delays? In "standard" and "dual" modes the unit goes into uncontrolled repeats.

I'm running the unit through my Rectoverb's effect loop. Is the delay or the amp at fault?

Update, simply running the DD20 through the effects loops gives sparkling clean delay, I was runnning it in front of the amp before and sometimes got a little distortion. The DD20 is definitely my favorite delay pedal, bar none.

I would love to get one! But alas... the title of the thread should be:

"Boss DD20 Giga Delay vs. Pedalboard Space"

I have a Visual Sound H2O which has a great sounding and up to 1sec. analog echo, and the DOD DFX9 delay (again, up to 1 sec.), and set to different times and decay rates, they sound quite nifty together. But no reverse

I wish! My pedalboard is already a monster... nah, I'll have to "settle" with the eventual purchase of a Boss DD6 if I ever choose to upgrade my DOD.

Maybe it's because I'm a fan of bands like Korn, Incubus, and Wes Borland's projects, but that just seems small to me
