Boss DS1

Hey, is this pedal supposed to be used on the clean channel or can you use it on the distortion channel of your amp and like roll back the distortion and tone control on the pedal so it doesnt sound over distorted/white noise?

Yeah the ds-1 works on both the clean and overdrive channels, just when you do use it on the drive channel back the amps gain down.

Just experiment with different amp/pedal settings until you find a sound that you like.

Awesome! Thank you, I really appreciate it. Reason I asked was cos I always was under the impression that Distortion pedals were used for clean channel and overdrive pedals were used for the amps natural distortion to overdrive it. But thank you again.

Well any distortion pedal can be turned into an overdrive pedal, just have to tweak settings.

Its just that distortions have more "guts" than overdrive pedals so you can use them on clean channels, whereas overdrives have weaker gain and aren't really used by themselves, they usually are boosting an amp or something.

If you're any good with basic soldering skills, look around for the Keeley Seeing Eye Mod (Ultra) - it made the DS-1 a really kick ass pedal....
I had mine for a couple years and hated it...then I did that mod to mine and it made it one of my favorites.

Re: Boss DS1

All my pedals are modded (by me of course) and the ds1 sounded like as you say, distorted white noise, no matter how I used it before the mods I did.
