Boss GE-7 or Metal Zone?

Hi

I use a 520qs and a boss me-30 for my distiortion. I play in a band that plays original stuff and is influenced by bands such as Pantera,AC/DC,Down, Ozzy and so on.

I'm going for a zakk wylde/pantera sound.

I wanna get a better distiortion and I can decided wheater to get an EQ pedal and fine tune the distiortion on the ME-30 or if I should just get the metal zone and use the eq that is on the me-30 to fine tune that.

Any thoughts?

Hi Aussie,

If you get the MT-2 it's an "AND" not an "OR".

Everybody I know that uses an MT-2 implies that the GE-7 should be bundle with the MT-2 as they would never considerer playing the MT-2 without the GE-7.

Your mileage may vary.

I've tried an ME-30 only once and the amount of distortion (if it's what your after) is not even in the same league as the MT-2. The MT-2 is definitively a tone sucker however and I doubt the ME-30 will be enough to eq it adequately...

What is it of the ME-30 distortion you don't like? If it's "thin-sounding" you may wanna try to use an overdrive pedal like a TS-9 in front of it to warm the sound and fatten it a bit.

Just my two cents.

yeah the sound is kinda thin.but it may be just because I'm not using the right amp. at the moment i'm using a roland 408. i really need a quadbox cause i have to mic the amp up at band practice ...

IF you aren't happy working with your amp's distortion, I'd say go with the MT-2. It's a great pedal and sound's good with lighter distortion settings, too. I prefer the distortion circuits in individual pedals rather than the ones built into muliti-effects units. I think that a GE-7 on top of the MT-2 would be too much EQ. Spending some time tailoring the sound of the MT-2 should be fine. I like EQ's for clean tones.

Why not a DS-1?Mix it with some amp gain and it will sound awesome. Zakk uses an SD-1, which is similar to the ds-1 with a little less gain and little fatter tone. The SD-1 could be a great option too, but i´d go with the ds-1.
The MT2 sounds too harsh and the tubescreamer (another great pedal) is very expensive (of course i mean the 808, the best one)(was it 808 guys?,i know it had two 8´s) . The best ds-1 is the japanese, but the MIT is easy and cheap to modify (you can read it in previous posts in this forum).
I think you´ll like the mt2 just the first month...
Maybe another way is staying with your gear and add something like a compressor, delay...
