Boss GT-3 vs Boss GT-5 - GT-3 vs GT-5

What are the major differences between these two?
(Besides the price)

Boss GT-3 vs Boss GT-5

This site:
http://members.tripod.com/bossgt3/FAQ_Superframe.htm
will answer all your questions.

I selected a GT-3 over the GT-5 because it had a disconnectable power supply, a better chorus, and a pickup simulator that will turn my evo's into really hot single coils with the tap of a switch.

Check them both out and decide which one works best for you.

Hope this helps
-Andrew

Try them both out and see what you think.
I personally rather the GT-3 as it is much better value for money, is unbreakable and sounds great.

How Do You Run Your GT-3. I Find The Preamp Patches Pretty Weak So I Shut Them All Off And Use It As A Muti Effects Unit For Delays Chourus EQ Reverb Phase Flange And The Compressor Run Through The Loop Of My Valvesate Combo.

RGA7620:
If your running through a combo, you should not use the preamp. It would be like running two amps into eachother then to the speakers *Yuck!

That said, I really have only found the "Twin" amp to be usefull for me, but others don't sound /that/ bad.

I currently run the GT-3 in the effects loop of a Pod Pro then out to a Tech21 Power Engine 60.

For those of you who want to hear the GT-3 in action...
I uploaded two MP3 files I recorded to the FTP area of this site. The files are named:
* WhiskyMadness.mp3
* IceDance.mp3

Both files where recorded direct from the GT-3 to a Tascam 4-track using the Boss JS-5 for the backing band. Then mixed down to the computer from the Tascm. *Oh yeah, the gtr you are hearing on these 2 tracks is a Jem 555. *:-)

Note the arpeg. you hear on the Ice Dance song was the Arpeg effect on the GT-3 (I simply can not play THAT fast).

Boss GT-3 vs Boss GT-5

I uploaded .mp3s of some files of my gt5 in action a while back before this discussion came about. My advice is this, these 2 units are completely different, to me the gt5 is more suited for live applications rather than for direct applications....IMHO the GT3 is more suited for this very application.

I'm not going into a "My unit is better than your's" argument here...if you want to find out the features of these units, go to the roland or any other gt3/gt5 website.

Also if you are thinking of getting one, go to the store and test drive one. Don't base your opinion of what you hear from us online...trust your own ears.

Having owned my gt5 for over 2 years now, or any multi effects pedal...setup is very crucial, going from on amp to another can and does most of the time radically change the sound.

And also I do you use my GT5 preamp into the preamp of my current amp, I feel that it is best way to get the tone, but yes I do agree that putting 2 preamps together does screw things up a little, but with my amp it is not the case...I put the gt5 right into the amp's clean channel.

Fortunately my amp possesses a very acoustically clean tone. I've tried the gt5 with a legacy too...sounded just plain awesome!

Another thing about these units is that you have to spend time...I stress spending a lot of time...tweaking the effects to your liking, bearing in mind that amp setup is crucial. The factory presets sounded like crap to me, but with a lot of patience and tweak, I love it now.

Christopher: Is it that you are using the GT-3 as more of a overdrive for the amp or are you actually using the COSM stuff before you get to your amp?

Also, I would love to hear the sound you get from your setup, do you have any MP3's?

Boss GT-3 vs Boss GT-5

After trying out a GT-5 and deciding that the GT-3 was better for me I bought it. Took it home and now what it sounded like crap compared to what i could usually get. So I fiddled with it for about 2 weeks straight. Well it ended up being scraped completly.. Now I own about 5 Box's that do exactly what i want without destroying my tone. I do own a Digitech RP2000 which i belive is the best for sitting in a quite place with headphones jamming away. Anyway if your on a budget the GT-3 is not bad, but for me it couldnt be giged.

Ok I couldn't really be bothered to record something new... LOL!
But I do have a recording of me doing some solo...no prizes for guessing which one. This is using my UV777BK, thru my boss GT5, using the metal stack preamp, EQ, Reverb and a little chorus...right into my fender 15 watt bronco...

YES 2 PREAMPS!

It's done with some 5 dollar computer mic....pardon the quality.

Eh I hope it's good enough, and convincing as well.

Chris.
