Boss GT-8 4 Cable Method Help

Hey guys,

I'm quite aware of the 4-cable method with a GT-8, but when I did it with my Peavey JSX I still heard the Boss GT-8 and there was no sound coming from the JSX. Even if I turn off the preamp stuff on the GT-8, I get what I would hear if I plugged headphones into the GT-8 and it's really bothering me.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks!
Jeffrey

I'm not quite sure what you mean, could you try explaining it another way?

It could be that you haven't set the loop correctly. I'm not near my GT-8 at the moment but I think you can set it for series or parallel operation, and for the four-cable method it needs to be in series or you will get the GT-8 sound and the JSX sound at the same time.

Re: Boss GT-8 4 Cable Method Help

There are a few things to note with the 4 cable method...

1) the wiring should be :
guitar -> gt-8
then gt-8 send -> Amp in
Amp FX send -> gt-8 return
gt-8 out -> Amp return
(Amp out -> speakers)

2) You'll need to enable the gt-8's FX loop (and place it at the desired point in the chain)

3) The Amp may have either series or parallel FX loops, I use serial and include a volume in the gt FX chain, if you use parallel then you will be able to hear the straight through amp sound.

4)if you use the headphone socket on the gt8 you should hear the effected pre-amp sound of the amp, but you'll still need to plug in speakers or you might damage the output stage of the amp (you could turn down the master volume of the JSX if it has one for silent practice, better to just use the gt-8 on ot's own in my opinion though).

Hope this helps...
Jim
