Boss RC-2 looper question...
Hi all -
So i just picked up a boss rc-2 looper.
I have some questions about it, regarding if this is normal.
1 - When i record a clean sound, and save it, then play it back so i can play a lead over it, the clean sound also becomes distorted. The same holds true if i record a distorted rhythm and want to play a clean sound over it (probably would never do this anyways) the recorded distorted rhythm becomes clean. Is this normal?
2 - The guide pattern also gets distorted when i use switch over to a distorted tone; is this normal?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Re: Boss RC-2 looper question...
You have to use it in the effects loop in order for the sound to stay clean. If it is in line the sound is just sending a guitar signal to the amp like a guitar would, so when you are using distortion that signal gets distorted too. The amp doesn't know that it's not a gutiar. Your guitar is clean when you send it to the amp the amp makes it distorted why would it be any different for the signal coming from the pedal? It's the same as plugging two guitars into the same amp. They both are on the same channel.
If you use the effects loop. The signal isn't going through the channel the same way and it won't get distorted.

Yeah boss really screwed the pooch by not giving those pedals a separate out so you could run the loop to a different amp than the live playing.

Thanks.
So if i don't have an effects loop (i have a vox ad15) then i'm pretty much screwed then?

Meaning a separate
distortion pedal
rather than using my amps, i suppose? Uggg, kind off defeats the purpose of having a modelling amp with 3 channels if i want to use the RC-2.....doh!
I guess i have to go for a separate distortion pedal if i want to keep the rc-2 then?
thanks
jeff

There is a line out on the back of the amp, you could use that to get the samples, you'd just have to either run it to a PA, or another amp.

Uggg....too much to just get it to work. I might try and see if i can return it. Or if i want to use it, use this as my justification for a new amp

Re: Boss RC-2 looper question...
Do you have a line in? I have a similar situation except I have distortion pedals for live stuff. But on my micro cube I record the part clean how I want it and then I put it through my line in.
Yeah man sems like you and me are doing the same stuff.

The vox ad15 has a line/phone jack in the back. Can i use his? Sorry for the stupid question, but do i just hook up this to the rc-2 using a guitar cable?
Thanks
jeff

Re: Boss RC-2 looper question...
Yeah so record you part like you wer then keep the output plug plugged into the pedal and plug that chord into the line in and there you are it'll stay clean while you play distorted over it.
I do it that way. And it even sounds better for the drum sample on the pedal I have full songs record on mine to practice with, drums and guitar and it sounds clean through the line in.

Re: Boss RC-2 looper question...
I think the RC-20 is best suited to amps that do have an effect loop. I can understand your frustration... but if you can shell out for such advanced pedals, then maybe it is also time for a new amp

We use ours for samples leading into songs, so it just goes through the PA, they are handy.
