Buffers, long cables and others...please explain!

Ok, I want to start using pedals (never have!) and I'm worried about signal loss due to long cables.

First of all, I wonder how do pro musicians get away with maybe a hundred feet of cable. I personally saw Satch's live rig, and he used about 7 pedals, all non modified, which means no true bypass. Obviously, in a big stage he needs a lot of cable. Great tone anyway!

I understand that buffers may help reduce signal loss. Are these special units, or for instance, the 'buffer circuitry' in the Bad Horsie wah will do the job? Another thing, if 2 or more units have these circuits (my Korg tuner has one), do they affect each other if put in line?

I'll appreciate any input! thanks

What you will need is a VHT Valvulator 1 Line buffer/power supply. This unit will make it sound like you are plugged directly into the amp with no signal loss. Another option is a Digital Music Corp. GCX swithing system. It too has a buffer.
