building practice PA

I'm trying to build a PA system for use in practice/self powered gigs for my band. What i'll need it for primarily are, two seperate microphones for vocals, but would also like the added possibility of say, an 8 channel PA, incase i wanted to mic drums into it as well. This doesn't have to be a super versatile rig, but i'd like it to sound as good as possible without going overboard with equipment, we already have a ton to carry around as it is. So far i've found a Nady XA-900 Pro Stereo Power Amp, i've been looking at microphone preamps, and equalizers, but want further advice on these, and what is absolutely required, and what is extra. i'll be using 1-2 speakers with this set up, budget is ~$600.

Re: building practice PA

I'm in the same situation you are: need a small/medium PA for practice/small gigs for at least 2 mics, preferably 2 speakers, and the option to expand to more channels in the future if needed, and minimal budget.

I'll have to watch this thread as well
