Bying Mesa Boogie amp - need opinions

I need some space at home and, therefore, I am selling my Triaxis/2:90 rigg and intend to buy a small combo.

At the moment I have found to used models that I am thinking of - either a Rectoverb (Version 1) or a Nomad 55. I have read tons of opinions about these amps and have never really played them myself. Although, if I find a Mark IV I think I will get that instead.

With my Triaxis I have mainly used three modes - Rhythm 1 Yellow, Lead 1 Red (Rectifier) and Lead 2 Yellow. I know that finding all of these in any of these combos is impossible, but intent to get as close as possible. My main concerns are the following:

1) I'm not sure I will be satisfied with the flat sound from the clean channel of the Rectoverb. I like the "Tweed" mode on the Roadster but unfortunately that mode is not included on the Recto.

2) Will the Nomad deliver the amount and type of gain that i like? I know the clean channel is good. The sweet liquid character of the Triaxis Lead 2 Yellow and the compact heavy rhythm sound that I know I can get from the Rectoverb.

Does anyone have any opinions about these two amps?

Are talking about the Carvin Nomad 50 watt combo or something else?

whoops, I'm tired as hell. lol

well the best bet would to be taking those amps home and playing it loud and proud.

I haven't tried those amp models you listed for mesa's.

I just know I don't really like their rectifier models. just not what I'm looking for, though well suited for high gain stuff.

My vote goes for a mark III 1x12 combo w/ Black Shadow..

If I couldn't have my triaxis I would surely get that instead.

I finally got a used Mesa Nomad 55. Good clean, great bluesy tone, good heavy rhythm and a fine lead sound. Nothing like my old Triaxis, but it works for me.

I personally would opt for the Mark IV combo.
You won't get full-on recto sound, but you can easily nail that early metallica chunk. The 5 band is a very nice and quick way to dial in your tone after you've sculpted the gain.
If someone told me I could only have 1 combo amp, the Mark IV would be my go to.

Re: Bying Mesa Boogie amp - need opinions

I used to own a mark IV half stack but I traded it out for a dual rectifier half stack.
Both are great amps, The mark IV had a lot cleaner sound but I like the dirty on the rectifier better.
The 4x12 boogie cab I got new with the markIV had like 90 watt speakers in it if I remember right.
The dual rectifier cab has 30 watt celestions.
The markIV gives you a lot of knobs & EQing, which is versatile but too much in my opinion.
I mean do u really need to boost freq as low as 60hz for an electric guitar to the level that amp allows?
The rectifiers only allow small decibel adjustments in EQ... (sorta idiot proofed for guitar players)
After all, guitar is a mid range instrument,
leave the lows open for the bass player & the highs for cymbals.
So when you dial in your sound on a markIV, keep in mind that you aren't EQing it for the final mix.
Don't over use it, it is easy to suck all the frequency out of your sound by using the eq to cut or boost drastically.
Tweek your tone in mild ways, don't listen to a metallica album (that is a mastered, very well meshed mix between bass & guitar) & try to get that sound directly out of your amp.

I can see the setting now, I nice smiley face or V shape on that main EQ.
Congrats, u just sucked all the mids out of your tone & cranked frequencies in the lows for example that is now stepping on bass player.

Get a Mark IV. IMHO the best Boogie. Get a 112 thiele, and you will be happy.
