Calling all RG550 owners....

There has been much discussion on what pu works well with the rg550, just wondering if you have one, to list what pu you have used/kept in it, and any comments on them.

thanks

jeff

in my RG550 I have a dimarzio Air Norton in the neck position and a dimarzio X2N in the bridge.

the X2N is a fantastic pickup for rock/metal rhythm, and does a good job for lead too, though it's not very subtle.

the Air Norton is excellent and gives a much more rounded neck-humbucker sound, with little or no mushiness. it's more defined than a PAF Pro in the neck.

Thanks earthman, from past posts, i've gathered that the air norton is the pu to go in the neck. *Still not sure of the bridge however.......super 3, super distortion, who knows.......figure if i can get an idea from what people have in their 550s...

When I had my old RG550 (I donated it to my brother), I had an Air Norton in the neck and a FRED in the bridge. I gravitated towards the JS guitar naturally with that kind of pickup choice. *I used to have an Duncan Custom in it but the FRED sounded more refined to my ears at that time.

Good Luck!

Thanks to the most splendiferous Kenny (kennydoe) who sold me an Rg550 I have one of these babies.
(actually the body turned out to be a 750)

It has been heavily modded but I currently have an air zone in the bridge and an air norton in the neck oh and a jem single in the middle

Sounds really quite nice

Best wishes

Simon

I currently have a tone zone in one,I tried an evolution, but it was a little to trebly for my ears. The tone zone warmed it up a bit. Also kind of liked the ibz usa pickups for soloing. The maple fretboard presented a problem to me because of its bright tone.Overall the tz still sounds the best to my everchanging ears.

I've got Ibanez USA pickups in mine and they do a very nice job.

Jono was right.

well, Jem pickups would sound very similar since the body's are nearly identical. *I have a Steve's Special and an Air norton in mine, but I don't like them, I want Evo's!

I'm very boring - I've kept the stock V7/V8 combo in mine... I don't use the 550 for really high gain stuff, and I like these pickups for blues/crunch style playing. My 550's one of my favorite guitars, and probably the cheapest guitar I own.

I think just about "anything" works in the 550. *Like LGM said, anything being Evos, Breeds, PAFs etc. *It really depends on what sound you're looking for. *I've used all of the aforementioned in mine, but I've never tried any ofthe "airs" in mine.

Before I sold my 550 (it was a what?!?!) to splendiferous Simon, I had an Evolution Bridge, TX Special Bridge in the middle and a PAF pro in the neck.

Very similiar to what I keep in my Jem and UV (except for the middle p'ups.)\

Jeff,
so what pick-ups are you going to put on the 570?

Kenny,
how does the TX Special sounds? what it's made for? blues? warm tones? thick tones?
