Re: CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME BUY AN AMP?

Have you thought about going used? That would be your best route.

Re: CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME BUY AN AMP?

of that list I'd choose the mesa nomad 45 combo(what is it? 112? 212?) Very nice clean, excellent reverb and two great distorted channels.

Honestly, I wouldn't mess with the kustom, if you have a mesa dual caliber head w/ 412 cab for that price. The kustom isnt that much cheaper and I honestly haven't heard one I was impressed with. I really wouldnt judge the kustom based on the video, as you dont know what kind of distortion they are actually using, they're likely using a boost.( i didn't look at the video honestly, but as I said, I've played kustoms and was not impressed).

Re: CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME BUY AN AMP?

TO texshred777: In the vid, they're using just guitar to AMP no pedals. just amp distortion....Maybe I could save up for a Mesa Dual Rectifier head but it costs alot to change the tubes since there are alot of em. Does anyone know how much???? Maybe I should get a 6505+ with a marshall 1936 cab?? I have a Ibanez Prestige RGA 121 WNF and might be changing the pickups (to what?? I dunno..Suggestions??) but I want a realiable solid built very good sounding, versatile amp.

yes, it's very versatile. The gain channels are very responsive and both give you a vintage/modern voicing. I would keep them on their base voicing. 1st(chann. 2 I believe) on vintage the 2nd is modern (chann. 3 I think).

Ok. Narrowed it down.

1. Peavey 6505+ head with Rudy tubes+ marshall 1936 212 cab with Celestion G12T-75's
2. Marshall AVT150H with Marshall 1960A cab (awesoem cab) with Celestions G12T-75's.
3. Kustom 72 Coupe
4. Peavey 6505 combo. Let me know guys..
5. Mesa triple rect. head (a maybe-probably not) with Marshall 1936 212 cab
6. Marshall Mode 4 (I think its good) + 1936 cab

Re: CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME BUY AN AMP?

cross the mode 4 off your list. I think your best bet is the mesa or one of the peaveys

Re: CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME BUY AN AMP?

I just bought a Rectoverb combo and am probably going to be selling my Nomad-45 2x12 combo in the next month or two because really I don't NEED two Mesas like that, but that doesn't change the fact that the Nomads are one of my favorite Mesa models ever.

I actually disagree with Texasshred - the Nomad's channel 3 "vintage" mode is one of the best lead channels I've heard in a Mesa. My suggestion is to try channel 3 vintage with the channel volume high and the gain a little opver half, and 3 modern witht he channel voolume halfway and the gain about the same - you get a bit of extra saturation from the channel volume which works much better for leads than from clear rhythm.

The 3 vintage is reminiscent of a Mark-IV style distortion, whereas the 3 modern is sort of like a more refined rectifier, without quite the huge low end or "rip your face off" presence, and with a little more mid-gain flexibility. Really, it's the most versatile Mesa I've played in terms of the range of gain responses it can cover - my only regret was they didn'd do the rectfier "channel cloning" thing for channel 2, so I could dial up 3 vintage and 3 modern at the same time.

Re: CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME BUY AN AMP?

Well, they're very different bands... I always thought Sum 41 was more of a punk-y Marshall sort of sound? Not a tone I've ever chased, myself, but it's a versatile enough amp that I'd be surprised if you couldn't get an appropriate tone from it, especially the 2nd channel... For nu-metal, the genre is basicallyu defined by the sound of the Mesa Rectifier. Again, the Nomad isn't a dead ringer, but it's closer than anything that doesn't say "Mesa" on the front will likely get you.

Forget the Triple Rectifier, you don't need the headroom. Look into a Single, or maybe a dual if you absolutely need the third channel and tube rectification (a tube rectifier doesn't necessarily sound better, it actually sounds looser and muddier, which some people like. The vast majority of tube amps use solid state rectifiers)
