Carvin basses

I'm thinking about spending maybe 500US on a bass in the next month or two, and was wondering if anyone here could recommend the Carvins. There are a few floating around that are in line with the price of a Fender Jazz(specifically the US made Highway One), and was just looking for any input from owners or users. I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone with a 500 dollar bass they have and love.

thanks,

jim

the Carvins are absolutly wonderful. I love the feel and sound of them and a lot of them are going for around your budget.

I only have Carvin parts, including a couple necks. But if their quality & value is any indication, you can't beat 'em.

Are their bass pickups any good? From what I hear, the guitar pickups are lacking

yeah the guitar pickups are so-so IMO. The Bass ones are better quality definetly.

Well, sounds great! I was thinking I might be up for Bartolinis anyway, but if the stock pickups are good sounding and are flexible, maybe I can spend a bit more.

I love the sound the bassist of Staind got on their latest CD (14 Shades of Grey), and he uses Carvin 5-strings (both the long-scale and standard-scale basses).

I bought an Ibanez SR400 for my daughter from Matt's Music last Xmas. It plays really smooth and the neck is very comfortable. The active pickups and EQ make it easy to dial in any sound I desire.

Although the site has the price listed at $444, Matt made me a deal on the bass and molded hardshell case for under $500. It wasn't dead inventory either. He had to order the bass, as it was Xmas and the black color was sold out at the time.

Mentioning that you're a jemsiter and you're buying from a sponsor goes a long way with Matt. I can't recommend him highly enough when it comes to ordering an instrument on the net, sight unseen.

What kind of amp are you putting that SR400 through? Your right about Matt, seems like a great guy from his posts. I'll take a look on his site to see what they carry, and if I get something new I'll get it from him. I'm all for supporting the sponsors
the thing that attracted me to the carvin is the neck through, the reptation of the workmanship and the bang for the buck. You see some nice used Carvins out there in the 500 to 700 range, with a lot of high end appointments.

My daughter has a cheap Crate practice amp, but at rehearsals I use my bassist's SVT Pro and Carvin 4x10 and 1x18 cabs.

Yes, Carvin basses are awesome. Like their guitars, they compete several price levels above what they actually cost. I hope to find a used 5-string at some point. Because Carvin basses are actually pretty expensive. With a few of the typical options they can get quite expensive, and my main instrument is guitar anyway.

A couple of really nice LB76's just sold for under $500. If there's one available when I sell my house, I'll just get one of them. Really can't beat it for that workmanship at that price.
