Problems wit my carvin legacy

i bought an amp of theirs off **** sold by the carvincorp ****

they sent it to me and i got a bad buzz when i'd turn up the reverb the louder i turn the reverb on the amp the louder the buzz gets

so i sent it out to them they had it for a month i just got it back and the buzz is gone but the reverb doesn't work at all

i talked to the tech on the phone they were having me switch tubes around to see if thats the problem

then they had me messing with the wires to the reverb tank and they said it's the reverb tank or the a'4 tube or something and theyre gonna send me a new reverb tank and tube in the mail and i can install it myself

it looks pretty simple but i don't really know what i'm doing, could i get electrocuted?

Re: Carvin f'ed me over

It's as easy as un plugging the existing tank and plugging in a new one. Shouldn't require dropping the Chassis at all.

That being said, it doesn't sound like the f'ed you over... They seem to be taking care of you. Besides, stuff gets busted in transit. It might have worked fine when they boxed it up but something got shaken loose in transit.

Re: Carvin f'ed me over

don't forget that even though they changed the reverb tank to a new one (if they fixed it) the reverb is still powered by a preamp tube, so a tube could've gone bad in shipping and that's why they are trying to switch the tubes around.

And they f'ed you over how? They are helping you over the phone and sending you the needed replacement parts for FREE. Sounds like they are being the stand up company that I've come to know

Which amp did you get?

Tubes and reverb tanks should be an easy job to replace. Just be sure to unplug the amp first

Re: Carvin f'ed me over

sounds like you likely got f'ed by UPS or whoever shipped the guitar, and the guys at Carvin are doing everything they can to make it right.

Re: Carvin f'ed me over

So buy locally from a reputable local dealer who will support you. Don't bitch about being inconvenienced because an amp you bought mail order is acting up and it's taking time to fix.

You want to pay less for an amp so you buy from a company that sells direct. That's the way it is.

if its a Legacy just send it to me and I'll take good care of it

but seriously I think maybe when it is shipped it might be getting damaged, I've had that happen to me before

Re: Carvin f'ed me over

I would attribute your issues more to UPS (or whomever), as has been stated, than Carvin. I can certainly understand being angry at having to jump through hoops after laying out a grand, but it does seem like Carvin is trying to take care of you here. Let us know how it works out.

Re: Carvin f'ed me over

1. send them back the WHOLE AMP, they wont send it back untill it works and u can ask tem to keep it for a week and play it daily to be sure its okay
2. shut up, the legacy is knwon for being able to be dropped and work flawlessly everytime

3.i think i ****ed the amp up and are now trying to release the guilt from urself, u dropped it, kicked it, or turned it up too loud, or fedex ****ed u whatever...its not carvin...thses things happen every so ofter, and ur the first carvin is usually the best in customer service and supprt, bettter than any company iver ever dealt with, evne better than ibm when i got my new labtop

i have to talk to a indian for christ sake!!! with little to no english

Re: Carvin f'ed me over

It may be worth taking it locally to a repair shop and paying the $35 or so bench charge to trouble shoot it. Your time has a dollar value. The aggravation of pachaging and shipping and the down time without the amp has a value. Then, if it's an expensive repair, send it back for warranty service. If it's not all that expensive, which it probably isn't, these things usually aren't. just pay the bill and be done with it. Yep, it all sucks, but deal the cards you've been dealt and move on.

Re: Carvin f'ed me over

Man, sorry about your luck. I agree with these guys. Sounds to me like Carvin is trying to fix the issue. May be due to an oversight on their part, or shipping damage or just those mysterious things that happen. Man, I think we've all had these kinds of things happen to us and had to suffer through it. (Try suffering through the time frame of a Herc swirl order for crying out loud! And then finding the fret markers (dots on top) are all over the place and have to be repaired, ..after waiting almost a year for the perfect guitar! LOL)

I'll say this as food for thought. We all are confronted with these things in life. What defines us is not the cards we are dealt, ...but how we react to, and play those cards. Be as patient as you can. The bench test isn't a bad idea. For me, $35 is worth getting rid of the hassle. I'd say the fix is likely something rather simple.

Hope it works out for you soon. Hang in there.

Here's a revolutionary idea when you get the parts and work on the amp......

Unplug the amp from the wall
