Carvin Legacy head through this cab....(behringer)

Ok I have decided to get a Legacy head but I won't have enough money to get a Legacy head and a Legacy Cab so I decided to get a Behringer BG412H($199, 400 watts, 8 OHMs)

Now I need to know if the Legacy Head and the Behringer cab will work together. I talked to someone at Carvin and they said I wouldn't be able to get the tone I'm looking for out of the Behringer cab and I would need a Carvin Cab... so in the end they told me I would be better off getting a combo. I really didn't want to have to get a combo ... I would like to build a full stack later on and not just a 3/4 stack with the combo(which is only 4 speakers total...equivelant of 1 cab).

Do a search on "Behringer" here and see what you find...I know of one member who rates it the top of his list of 4-5 cabs. Saying you need teh Lecacy cab for the Legacy head sounds like the salesman is just doing his job. While the Carvin cab is specifically engineered for the head, that doesn't mean another cab won't work fine.

I would go for a used 4x12 Marshall or Peavey
instead of the Behringer...The Behringer would no doubt
perform well but no as well as the other 2 I mentioned.

I believe the Behringers are made out of a lighter weight wood
which makes the price lower and easy on shipping.

Get an Avatar cab. Can't beat their prices for new cabs and you can choose your speakers (this will affect price, obviously). http://www.avatarspeakers.com/

I checked out the Avatars but the prices on their 4 speaker cabs were a little too much.

Yep, that would be me!
And yes, the Behringer beats out every cab I've heard or owned. Marshall, Mesa, Peavey, Carvin, Genz-Benz, & Avatar are all left in the dust by this sucker. Finally, a company like Behringer has provided a cab that sounds amazing AND is affordable to all! I never thought I'd say such glowing comments about a cab that ranges between $199-249. Amazing! Since I began using the Behringer, over a 1/2 dozen guitarists in my area have bought Behringers after hearing my rock/metal tone. The cab speaks for itself. Your Legacy head will do fine with the Behringer cab (mono or stereo operation).

Exactly. The company will always tell you to buy their product.

Hey revsharp which Behringer cab do you recommend most? I know I need a slant but should I get the $199 cab with the custom speakers(100 watts each) or should I spend an extra $50 and get the one loaded with Jensen speakers?

Personally, I use the straight cab. All the cabs are great quality. I have the cab with Behringer Shark speakers in them. My friends have the Jensens. The only difference I noticed is that the Behringer speakers put out a little more focused low end.

I use a rack system...

Rocktron Chameleon (the black/green old-school model) > BBE Sonic Maximizer > Rocktron Velocity 300 poweramp (ran stereo 150w per side).

I would stay away from the Behringer. According to their specs, the cab is made of MDF...particle board. Not what I would consider a quality material.

I trust an experienced player's ears more than a spec sheet.

I honestly don't think the material used for speaker cabinets affects their tone as much as the speakers themselves and the overall design of the cabinet. A well-designed MDF cabinet can sound better than a poorly-designed solid wood cabinet.

Sound isn't as much of the issue as durability. MDF is not known for being something that takes abuse well over a long period of time. Normal wear and tear can do more damage than it would to plywood.

Keep in mind the market Behringer is shooting for. They're going after the consumer market where people want quality sound on a tight budget. Roadworthiness is probably lower on the list of priorities for people in this market segment. Personally, i'd be willing to sacrifice a bit of durability for better sound. Especially in a $200 cabinet.

MDF is likely going to get dented and banged up on the corners and edges, maybe a bit easier than plywood, but i've seen the Behringer cabs and they use very thick MDF. They are VERY solid cabinets. I doubt you'd be able to cause significant structural damage to one if you rolled it down the stairs.

I just wish Behringer would make a 2x12 version.

That is true about the target market. I am just not a fan of MDF. That is just a personal thing. I have my eyes on the Avatar G212. Closed back 212 loaded with Eminence V12's. $200 shipped. To my personal tastes that is a steal for a plywood cab with name brand speakers and quality construction. In the end, people need to spend their money on what they think is a good deal. Which is why there are lots of companies and products.
