carvin quad preamp - i know nothing about it....do you?

I was just looking on ebay and again I saw something about the quad preamp. *I dont know anything about it. *I've never really heard any specifics about it. *They usually go for about 300 bucks or so...is it worth it. *Any info appreciated. *

carvin quad preamp

A friend of mine has one. *It has either 9 or 11 tubes in it. *It is a cascading gain type of distortion. *No diodes for distortion. *4 Channels, that last being killer distortion. *Built in noise gate. *The oldest version was not midi capable. *Most are midi capable. *I have heard nothing but good things about that preamp. *There are tons of peopl who are hounding Carvin to re-introduce it, but Carvin says it is too expensive to do an all tube preamp anymore. *They have recently started making a signature preamp for Frank Gambale. *For $300 I don't think you will be unhappy. *I have heard that the cab simulation in the direct out is very good also. *Carvin still services their old products so you are not stuck with it if it breaks. *I would get one if I had the money, but I have children so I gave up having money.
