Carvin V3 VS Carvin LEGACY

Im stuck, and I need you guys to help me out. Everytime I listen to clips of either (clips of the Legacy being Vais music haha) I fall in love with the other, and no, I cant buy both...though Id love to. Anyone own both of these possibly? Thanks!

I'd also like to know the difference in sound between the two.

Have they managed to work the bugs out on the V3s? I know it was plagued with bugs for some time, but never heard nay more about it.

I'd personally get the Legacy because I like the clean sound it gets, but the MTS gets a really nice clean as well, and is cheaper than both the Legacy and the V3. All the Carvin tuibe heads are great amps, you really can't make too bad a choice here. Do you need three channels or is two enough?

2 WORKS...but I REALLY like to have 3. I have an idea...order both, and then send back the one I dont like!

Just played an MTS last weekend, and was rather impressed. The guy was selling the half stack for $550, but I got screwed on my paycheck at work and had to pass. Bummer. Nice amp, too.

Can the MTS get a good metal tone? What amp would you compare it to?

From what I have heard it will get a decent metal sound but to get you either have to have so loud your ear drums explode or an attenuator.

Re: Carvin V3 VS Carvin LEGACY

I have a Legacy, great clean channel, very warm, the lead is certainly more mid oriented than the V3, (hence the V of course ). Problem is the volume indeed. If I'd turn up the amp to 5-6 where the beast awakes, my house would just collapse. Didn't have the chance to try an attenuator. 50watt switch doesn't do much about the volume as usual.

If you listen to Vai's music and expect that sound and tone right out of the Legacy, you will be sorely disappointed, like most of us..

Re: Carvin V3 VS Carvin LEGACY

I've been using a Legacy full stack for several rehearsals. And I can't wait for my own amp to be done. The Legacy is too damn loud. I think I'm yet to pass 1 on the volume knob... It's insane. It sounds OK, but I guess it would sound a lot better turned up, but I really can't turn it up. Not very much gain. Then again, I'm used to a 5150.

It was a 7 year old half stack, and looked mint. I sat there for a while, running through the tone stack, and found that I could get decent rock AND metal tones out of it. Wouldn't quite call it a Marshall tone. The gain seemed silkier than a Marshall. I could tell the guy babied that amp, and bummed that I couldn't step up to the plate and buy it. Had a decent amount of gain, too. Had a half power switch, the reverb and loop was switchable (together, though. One switch). really nice cleans, too.
Now, I am playing more straight ahead Rock and Hard Rock, and I love the tone of a Marshall DSL amp. If I had a choice, and money was no object, I'd buy the Marshall. However, I wouldn't hesistate on the MTS, either. Nice bang for the buck.

Very cool! I always assumed those werent that high quality, soundwise or constructionwise, but apparently I was wrong. But then again, its Carvin...theyre amazing. Thanks for adding another choice! And I guess the Legacy would be pointless without an attenuator...and anyways, it doesnt sound like its exactly what I need. Thanks alot!
