Changes in Taste, How About You

Anyone Go Through The Transition

I started playing only metal, had to have EMG's, high gain heads, huge strings, and metal looking guitars.

Over time I've learned what real tone is and now play superstrats with Dimarzio pickups, 9 or 10 size strings and traded my Randall and 5150II in for a Mesa. My virtuoso guitar instrutor and good friend told me these things three years ago but I wouldn't listen. I had to have crazy loud/high gain everything.

Wonder how much money I would have saved if I would have bought the gear I have now the first time. Anyone else go through something like this?

yes, tastes change, but I was lucky enough to buy an Ibanez RG450R as my first "proper" axe back in the early 90's - I didnt buy - or need another guitar until this year

spent a shed-load of money on amps though

Yep
I have no high gain amps anymore, and very regular guitars (LPs, Strats and Teles) and I haven;t looked back. No more Vs or floating trems or Mesas.

My taste in music ALWAYS changes. Im still 18 so its pretty hard for me to stick to one thing. Right now im listening to blues and shreddy stuff. A while ago it was fusion. and before that, prog rock/metal
As for gear, ive never had money to buy good guitars for anything so im still using my beat up ibanez st-200 and my crappy peavey bandit amp (which will change in a few months when my dealer gets me the marshall avt50)

Re: Changes in Taste, How About You

I sold all my gear about 4-5 years back and bought a acoustic was into the whole acoustic scene for a while, then sold the acoustic and im back with a vengenace with old school metal, and actually learning why I play what I play, versus just doing it.

forget the commercial but the tag line was "Change is good" and that is so true..

Wait til you change your rig so much you go back to what you originally started with. I've chased my tail like that a few times.

LOL. Yeah, I know THAT feeling! Already done that! I'm surprised I'm still married after all that stuff I've bought and sold!
