Choosing a Cab...

Hey whats up!

Well I really dont know what to do, somebody is offering me a peavey 412 XXX slant cab for 300 USD, I dont know if this cab is worth enough for my current gear what do you think? should I go for it?

Not a bad price at all... try the cab through your setup... not sure if you're gonna get close to that "recto" sound.. but if you're not happy, ya can check out Carvin 4x12's as well [for that same price range]. Otherwise, if ya end up getting the Peavey cab, ya can always upgrade the speakers

Cab and heads don't always work well together. There is an unbelievable tonal difference in the combination. One cab might sound GREAT with one head but suck with another. I think too many people unload their amps because they "don't sound good" and it was just the speakers. And it's not just cab construction, it's the speakers too. And different speakers will sound different in different cabs...with different heads. You must always demo the 2 together. You should never buy a head or cab without playing your own through it first.

But $300 for a good condition 4x12 is a fair price.

The XXX cab is okay, but not the best. But at that price, I'd buy it. I sometimes play my amps through my XXX cab and they sound fine. But tbh I prefer my Cornford 2 x 12
