Yep dude,
it will give you a lot more sustain.
Compressor allows you to reduce dynamics gaps & differences between notes, squeezing your signal and stretching it all way forward.
Pretty useful on shred type solos, to me, where you want the notes to come out all the same volume and intensity.
If cranked all the way up, it will give you a lot of feedback, even if totally manageable.
Try one out, its pretty useful.
