Question

Confusion with speaker impedance...

I bought a Mesa Boogie 20/20 a few months ago and so far I've been using only one of the channels through the speaker of my Marshall combo. I really wanted to get a 2x12 to unleash it's stereo power but I don't have the room (or cash) rigth now.

I have the chance of getting a 1x12 Mesa cab for a good price ATM, the only problem being that the speaker (V30) is 16 ohm. Now, the 20/20 has only 8 and 4 ohm ouputs but the manual says that it is still possible to connect a 16 ohm speaker to one of its 8 ohm outputs. I'm just wondering if that's as good as connecting an 8 ohm speaker. Should I look for another cab?

THX

As long as it's more ohms than the output it's all good. No problem whatsoever...

yea, thats the way I understand it too, otherwise youre driving your output transformer too hard and it WILL cost you lots of money.

just dont for example set the amp to 8 and have a 4 ohm cab hooked up.

I would hold on though and buy something that matches, cos although you wont destroy the output transformer, the sound wont be as good.
I experimented with this sort of thing until I did blow my output transformer !!
the sound is always best with a matched cab.
