cool amp... - from the past

I recently bought a Bogner 4x12 cab from the guitar player in Overkill (remember that version of Winter's Frankenstein?) who is really cool. *He also had an old Marshall super-lead modded out by Lee Jackson, with the variac. *This thing just kills, closer to the sound of the first two Halen records than anything I've heard before. *It also really nails those older Racer X and Yngwie tones pretty convincingly. *Needless to say I bought the amp as well. *This is the best cure of GAS I've had in along time.

yeah I think those variac switches are 1 of the only ways to get a pure Van Halen sound. That and those pickups bolted to the body thing......if you have that and a Peavy Wolfgang you got yourself a bonified Van Halen sound going on....

I have the same cab - it's incredible. The vintage 30's are sweet - shoulda came with a kidney belt for carrying! What watt Marshall? Can you explain the Variac to a dope like me? Looks like you're letting the amp do the work (which is my preference).
