I was reading on the net abt the keeley mods and some other technical stuff abt how distortion pedals work and thought maybe i can mod my jh-1 to make it sound better... its not the best sounding pedal ard and i mainly use it as a boost to drive my amp and to add just a bit of dirt to it to give my tone a slightly compressed sound...
the articles i was reading were abt
tube distortion and thta they are asymmetrical clipping.. this can be approximated by a solid state clipping stage that distorts one half of the signal. Keeley mods to the DS-1 are based on this... so i took apart my jh-1 and unsoldered my signal clipping leds and diodes and flipped them to one direct and resoldered them back...by doing so, only one half of the signal gets distorted similiar to tubes...
when i plugged the modded jh-1 into my amp, i must say it does sound warmer and the harshness of the solid state distortion is reduced... it makes the pedal sound nicer but it wun make it sound as if it has a tube in it... i am happy wif the mod and i can now get a very nice crunch/distortion wif the gain cranked...
anyone wanna know how to mod it can just pm me for instructions... actually if you know some basic electronics i can be easily figured out and this mod can apply to all distortion or od pedals out there...
