Question

Correct Floyd Nut size for my RG?

Due to the unavailability of a left-handed, gold Edge I will be installing an OFR into my 550LM. Custom Vine is being finished and i have received the statement below in regards to the correct nut size for the neck. Can anyone assist me in determining which Floyd (R2, R3, R4.....) nut will fit?

"the nut should be 43mm wide. The fretboard will be 16" radius, and the
string spacing should be standard Fender spacing (please check the floyd
spacing match to normal Fender). That should be it really, just make sure you
grab a couple of shims in case you need to adjust up a little."

A Floyd rep informed me of getting an R2 but that was 1 5/8" and I thought 43mm would be R3-R4 range??? Please end my suffering!

Much Thanks

Re: Correct Floyd Nut size for my RG?

First of all, if you are a lefty, you want the L, not the R nut.

If it's 43mm wide at the nut, that is 1-11/16" so the R2 at 1-5/8 is not what you want.

Even with a 16" radius fingerboard, I'm guessing that the nut is actually a 10" radius since that's the most popular Floyd nut, but I'm not sure. Otherwise you will probably need nuts #8 or 10 as they are 15" radius.

So you are either going to need a L4, L8, or L10.

Your best bet is probably to email floyd rose support and ask them.

I emailed Floyd but they have not replied as of yet.
I appreciate your time. I guess you can see the problem I'm having. Hopefully Floyd will respond and have the answer.
Thanks Gu1tar!
