Damage Control pedals

How are these pedals? Is there really tubes in these just like a tube amp? Can't be!

Re: Damage Control pedals

Yeah it does have two 12AX7 tubes in it which help it to have tube output but it doesn't sound like an all tube amp. IMO nothing beats the all tube amp at the moment.

I know it won't sound like a tube AMP! But, is it the best sounding distortion PEDAL on the market?

I don't like the way it sounds....... Too trebly for me. I prefer fat tones.

Re: Damage Control pedals

There is no such thing as best amp/pedal its all relevant to the player.

Try it out yourself, you might love it like most or you might hate it.

Re: Damage Control pedals

I'd love to try one myself, but none of my local retailers keep them, and there's no way i'm ordering in a pedal costing a couple of hundred $$$ without trying it first.

How would you describe them in comparison to other well known tones?

Any advice appreciated, as always.

Rock on!

Re: Damage Control pedals

I haven't tried it yet but calling it "the best" is purely an opinion based answer.

I use the Radial Tone Bone Hot British (uses a 12ax7 also). I love it for the versatility in tones with the uber amount of tone shaping controls. If it is too trebley, you can adjust that. If it is too middy, you can easily adjust it as well as many more tone shaping functions. I will never need to look into anything else, this pedal does everything I need in distortions. If I was to ever buy another distortion pedal to use in my live rig, it would be a second Radial as a back up (not that this one has given me any real issues but it is always better to be prepared ).

Just my humble opinion

Re: Damage Control pedals

I think the demo samples they have on the site are a pretty good indicator of the kind of tone that the pedal delivers. I remember listening to the samples and then trying the pedal a few weeks later and thinking how similar they sounded.

Hope that helps

True, but these are run at very low voltages (not the regular 300V+), the distortion is caused by the tubes being starved of voltage, I didnt like them, they sounded thin and the sustain was choppy. Just get a quality tube amp!

I am quite sorry but this is bull***.

If you look at the schematics for the solid metal (the one I have) you can see that they use a switcher to ge the voltage from the input AC 9V to about 200-300 for the tubes. (If you can read it also says it in the manual).

If you ever tried the demonizer and call that sound thin, then I do not know what amp you use, but for recording this beast sounds more fat than my Mesa.

The pedals are in no way trebly if you use the tone control to ... well control treble

The Domonizer is the best pre-amp mine I know and the solid metal is one of the best distortion pedals (or tube amp boosters) I ever played.
Apart from that the Glass Nexus is a dream come true, you get quality reverb/delay and mods with the sound of thousand dollar gear in a stomp box format.
