Diezel Amps

So after a long and ridiculous road trip today (drove into Boston specifically to go to the Guitar Ctr. in Boston, and got lost about 5 times so didn't make it till almost closing time), I was finally able to really quickly demo the Diezel Herbert. Now granted, this was with a POS beat up Schecter Revenger 7 string, and the guys were watching closely and wouldn't let me turn it up seeing as it is a $4200 amp...but this is my impression of it:

NOT WORTH IT!!!

I figured for that price, it must be able to almost play itself along with having the best sounding everything on the planet. Flyleaf uses one and I really like their rythm sound, although they use the VH-4...but anyway. It really wasn't anything spectacular at all. See, I was looking for something that could put the growl in the 7 string like a Mesa does and at the same time keep the bark of a lead amp like a Marshall/Carvin/Soldano/whathaveyou. Well, it didn't. In fact, it sounded just like every other amp does when you don't have your own tone dialed in, which is to say...kinda crappy. So I went and tried out a dual recto and jammed out on the 7 string for a while. My point bieng, I think I should give up my search and just use a X-100B and a Mesa single recto at the same time to get the effect I want.

Re: Diezel Amps

sure, a Powerball would rock too. I'm not a Peavey fan, sorry...

Everything that I've heard played on a Krank rocks, from Nevermore to Dethklok, to SYL..so they've gotta be doing something right.

Re: Diezel Amps

Just because its got a cool name, and its expensive - dont mean its any good! My favourite amp will always be a Peavey 5150, but due to sound volume limit restraints, I have never been able to get one. But in terms of tone and bands I like who use the amp, the 5150 is the one for me.

why not just get a attenuator so you can full tube saturation it at low volumes? I just ordered a Weber MiniMASS for my Legacy.

Re: Diezel Amps

The Diezel amps are of excellent quality. Fairly low self noise, excellent power, clean channels have great headroom.Plus the Herbert and Vh4 have midi controlled switching relays built in.

No amp is the perfect amp and Diezel is too expensive in the USA because of import taxing. But after demoing the Vh4 and Herbert, I found them to be excellent quality amps.

I found both of them to be unforgiving which means that if your playing is sloppy and you haven't developed the ability to control your guitar, then the Diezel amps wont hide it.

The Diezel amps greatest strengths are that they are super well built and do a good job of offering a "clean" clean channel and mid gain sound that actually has dynamic response and high gain modes that retain clarity and

I own a Mesa quad preamp with a Mesa 50/50 power amp and a Mesa triaxis and what I prefer about the Quad over the triaxis is that the quad is more dynamic and purer sounding . I spent the last 20 years eveloping my playing technique. I don't want to buy an amp that squashes the things I do.

Anyway, all said and done, the Diezel amps are a bit too marshally for me but I could easily play one if I had to but the no sale factor for me is the huge price tag. Diezel needs to find a way to get the price tag down

Yup, tried one and it BLEW. Don't like the Diesels, either. Not impressed with their tone, and WAY to expensive. For that price, get a Bogner XTC, if you can.

Re: Diezel Amps

Jeff Loomis did not use the Krank on any of thier albums. i think they used XXX and recitifers. Look at all the new live videos they have too. He is usually using Mesa head with Marshall cabs.

OMG, I you watch Metalocolypse? Duncan Hills Coffeeeeeeee!!!!

I think people use them because Kranks got some money, and Dime used them. And we all know how great dime's tone was.

Didn't Dime die shortly after he built the Krankenstein? I'm not sure if he even got to record with it. So is Jeff just starting to use them?

Re: Diezel Amps

KRANK IS KRAP! Man Kran is so bad (how bad is it) that I would rather play with crate solid state amp! And Dime did die like right after he built it, but he did use the Krank amps on the damage plan album. But my god the tone is HORRIBLE. check out this clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npsfCoX02ao

I mean come on that sucks ASS! Not worth it for the money you have to pay for it.
