Digitech 2112

Digitech 2112!
Is anyone out there in love with this unit.
I bought one along time ago.
I've never got a tone out of the thing that I like.
I now have a $950 paper wait.
I've spent way too much time trying to tweek this thing and it stinks.
I can't get a good distortion tone out of it.
I love the clean tones and the effects rock.

I can't think of one more way to start a line with the letter I!

I've got a 2112 artist and I'm moderately happy with it. It has quite a lot of effects and quite a lot of tweakability, but I find that often its high end is seriously lacking, and its distortion is, well, not nearly on par with even the beautiful Vai covers this dude did using a simple Marshall rack mount preamp.

This is probably because Digitech is more geared towards effects than amp / amp modelling. I sold my 2112 even though I still use it in the studio where I work, but I'm considering switching to either that Marshall or a Pod at home. Overall I'm pretty happy with the 2112, but not so much for distortion, more for its array of other fx.

That's too bad. I was thinking about going to a 2112 Artist. I've heard
so many good things about them.

Which Marshall rack are you talking about there bro?

Right now I'm using a Rocktron Chameleon and it sounds pretty good
when run through my Legacy head (used only as Power Amp). Otherwise
it sounds pretty damn harsh.

I think the Marshall preamp is a JMP100 but check the thread in Multimedia forum about "my cover of "Touching Tongues"" to see what the guy used.. listen to the cover too, its amazing!

If you're really a die hard distortion guy then yep, try something other than the 2112, but otherwise its a great effects unit.

Yeah, I listened to that cover...I was floored by that! I didn't get back to
it to read what hardware he used though. It's pretty impressive.
