Re: Digitech
i want to keep it below $200 can... Im using up a credit at the guitar shop. When i get to the point of jamin with a few friends or playin gigs then i will do a serious upgrad to my amp. Already know what kind of amp as a frend is using a yamaha and produces a verry nice clean and bright sound. and the effects that it has are just as good

Re: Digitech
A few thoughts.
I went the Digitech route (Gsp21, That'll date me) and it worked fine with my crappy practice amp for years.
So I finally upgraded my practice amp, and then all of a sudden the Digitech sounded very artificial to me. So I went guitar > Chord > Amp for about a year, and then started adding pedals. Some of the same pedals I got rid of when I went the Digitech route.
My point is, that if you're buying something now, that you know isn't the answer long term, you're going to wind up wasting some money.
What I wish I would have done is to spend my money on a good practice/small gig amp, and added the pedals/effects one by one over a longer period to get to the same endpoint I now find myself, but having saved money in the long run.
The cheaper multi-effects units will add a lot of effects, and help make your tone decent, but you may be throwing good money after bad.
Map out your long term strategy, and start working to those individual pieces.
Just my 2 cents. 200 bucks can add some pretty decent pedals that will work long term with any amp. May not be the immediate return you're looking for, but may be a better long term strategy.

Re: Digitech
I've got a GNX4 that I picked up as a demo for 50 bucks and I know that's out of your price range new, but I'm guessing the general FX and modeling is the same. For the price the charge for these things you can't really complain. At the end of the day, with anything digital, you get decent cleans but grainy, thin, and non-responsive distortion at higher volumes. I will vouch for DigiTech quality though. GLG421 may be right though, you could be throwing good money after bad if you're not dedicated to going the all digital route with full range speakers and such while recognizing the limitations. That was never an issue for me because I don't play "out" and I don't need volume.
I was really surprised by the GNX4 actually and it suits me fine. I use it through duel Roland Cube monitors in a room setting. It's got flexibility AND feel.

Re: Digitech
I own a GSP1101 AND I also own a Mesa Dual Rectifier Triple Channel, and I use both in my main rig to get my sound. And I can tell you that I love the tones I get form the GSP preamp almost as much as I love the Recto preamp ones... ant the digital effects are amazing in clarity and quality

Salvo if you can afford a GSP1101 you will not regret buying it, I also had read good things about the RP1000, but haven't had any personal experience with it.

Re: Digitech
i'll 2nd the 1101 recommendation. they are about $200 over what you are willing to spend (they generally can be had for about $400), but they are really versatile. the modeling is the best i've heard (although, i've yet to hear the axe fx, but it is about $700 more expensive as well) and it's also designed to work with your amp and be transparent. so if you do eventually upgrade to a tube amp, you can run the 1101 through it, use it for only effects, incorporate the amp models, or just use the modeled distortion pedals on your tube amp without it stripping your tone. that is worth the money alone imo.

Re: Digitech
I own an old RP-100, and it is very very nice for what it is. I keep discovering new ways of using it, like yesterday when I put my tubescreamer clone in front of it and used a simple amp (distortion) + EQ patch to get an amazingly heavy and brutal sound which blew me away. It is not the best thing in the world, but once in a while you just discover some things that it does great.
I have a nice impression of Digitech's products in general.

Re: Digitech
I had never owned a Digitech multi-effects processor until I came across the GSP1101. It was good but a custom firmware upgrade made it sound and function even better. I then bought the Control 2 foot controller and was even more impressed at the level of control it gives you, but I only needed it to record and practice quietly and decided the £500 I spent was not being put to good use. Plus it just had way too many options and settings to tweak, and prior to this I used to run a few pedals in front of a single channel amp.
Anyway, sold it and bought an RP350 for quiet practice since it also features the same AudioDNA2 DSP (GSP1101 has 2 of them). I'm quite pleased with how close it sounds to the GSP1101 - of course, it sounds more digital than the GSP and has way less amps/pedals/options but it's good enough for practice and after some tweaking it can sound quite good. It took me a few hours to create the 4 or 5 patches I need.
Let me know if you want a raw audio sample of the RP350.
