I liked my RPX but then I bought a Boss Gt-Pro. I generally like digitech stuff for like jamming and I've gotten some crazy good sounds even from the Rp50.
I never recorded via USB but I have seen a guy do it and it was pretty good quality. I believe he used a GNX4.
I don't think the whammy effect is as good as it is on the actual whammy pedal, same goes for my Gt-Pro. Maybe analog vs. digital or something?
If you want I can sell you my RPX400 and you can give it a whirl, its not as advanced as the new Rp500 or GNX4 but it does its job and I'm selling it for cheap anyway, plus I need money for a 7 string haha.
If I was going to spend a good amt of money I might go for a T.C. Electronics or a racked effects processor. Just that depends on if you want to have it in pedal board form for live situations.
Also to help you out, what are you using effects for? Are you using it to get all your tone or to add distortion and reverb, etc?
