Okay, I know an amp sim is not the same as a real
tube amp, but living in an apartment in Manhattan does not allow me to crank a tube amp enough to get good distortion and there is too much city noise to make recording a miced amp practical (had many good solos ruined by horn honking and/or sirens), so it is the only practical option for me. I had been using the POD XT Pro, which is good, but last night I picked up the GNX 3k, mainly because it has a Carvin Legacy.
After playing around with it for a while, and putting a Keeley modded TS9DX Flexi 4X2 pedal in front of it, I got a great Vai tone! This thing also responds to pick attack and playing dynamics like a real tube amp. I was always a tube snob, and would never play anything else until I moved to NYC, so I am very pleased with this amp sim. It's worth checking out IMHO.
Cheers,
Ray
