Dimarzio Single Coils - Suggestions Please

Hi chaps,
Now I have a soloist body I need 2 single coils.

I pretty much don't know anything about Dimarzio's singles (even on the Jems as I never use it)
I'm looking for a Neck pup that'll be very mellow sounding when used clean, almost jazzy but will also be able to cut it when soloing up the dusty end overdriven.
A bit of punch would be nice too.

I was looking at the red velvet, and a couple of others.

What are your experiences with Dimarzio singles?
(not looking at seymour duncan at all, so please no suggestions for them)

Also what single may work well in the middle to compliment the neck and the Tone Zone in the bridge?

Thanks in advance

Steve

Dimarzio Single Coils

Just picked up a blue velvet of *Brent aka "bduersch". (smoooth transaction by the way) As a middle position pickup I love it. I found my self making more use of my 5 pos switch vs just my neck and bridge. The blue velvet is bright and clean not muddy at all. Very crisp with leads and and harmonics. I would recommend it for the middle or neck position.

Dimarzio Single Coils

Rick--

Glad you enjoy the BV!

Steve--

I swear by the Blue Velvet. I've had it in 3 different Ibanezes (3 different woods, always in the center position though) and it kicked a$$ in all of them. I've even debated switching out the Jem single coils in a couple of my Jems for the BV just to get a liitle more output. I really like the tonal balance of the pickup--it's got lots of highs but also reasonably booming lows. The output's high enough that you can put it in a guitar with some humbuckers and not have a significant drop on output when you hit that position.

Dimarzio Single Coils

Most of the DiMarzio single coils seemed to be designed as a middle single coil in a two humbucker setup... and from my experiences, don't have a very pleasing sound by themselves.

For about the same money, I think Seymore Duncan makes a fantastic single coil. *I love the Quarter Pounders, and a lot of others seem to agree. *They are a pretty hot little single coil and can be wired to function as a very impressive humbucker.
