Dimarzio vs. Monster instrument cables

It's Christmas time and I need some new cables. Given the choice, which brand of cable would you choose? I don't really play out much (read: never), yet the cheap Planet Waves cables i always buy end up crapping out in a few weeks.

Re: Dimarzio vs. Monster instrument cables

ya can always mail the PW cable back to D'Addario and they'll mail ya out a new one. Done that with 10' and 15' cables a few years ago and they haven't crapped out since.
Unless you're done and over with PW, Monster Performer 500.

Go to lavacable.com and check out the Gepco its a really good cable for the price. If you want to take a step up try the Klotz. There is definitely a difference with good cable

Re: Dimarzio vs. Monster instrument cables

For a quality basic instrument cable at a reasonable price ($20 - $40), DiMarzio, Horizon HCS Concert, and Mogami Gold are excellent choices. For best bang for the buck, the Horizon HCS can be found at the big box online retailer for under $20. This is the exact cable Vai used for years, before coming out with his signature DiMarzio line.

I also like the Planet Waves cables, street price is pretty OK. HCS are neat and cheap, best bang for the buck.

Their cables are no better than a $3 job. In everything. I'll try find the link to the article about their $150 HDMI cable that is exactly the same as a $20 one.

I also like the planet waves ones... the compression springs on the jack add girth to help maintain good contact in situations where the input has loosened through years of use.

They are also pretty pricey.. but so far seem to be pretty indestructable.

Re: Dimarzio vs. Monster instrument cables

i have a connection at PW and bought a load of cables last year (the markup is unbelievable). In any event, the PW cables haven't failed on me and i gig very heavily.

I don't know why your experience isn't that good. Weird.

Re: Dimarzio vs. Monster instrument cables

I use Monster Cables quite a bit, from Instrument Cable to Studio stuff. They are far from the best audio cables out there but for 45-100 dollars (500,1000) series I personally think its a good deal. Unlimited warranty always cuts out the frustration (more companies have this but IMO are more anal about the restrictions that apply).

Though for instrument purposes alone DiMarzio and George L's make quite nice cables as well for a lower cost. If I had to choose a cable besides monster it would be George L's, they make quality stuff. Period.
