Dimarzio YJM vs Bareknuckle Trilogy Suite

I'm really looking for that Jason Becker/Malmsteen-ish raspy single coil through overdriven power-amp kind-of tone. My rig right now is a vintage boss sd-1 through a Carvin x100b w/ Orange cab. I'm thinking of getting either a Dimarzio YJM or a Bareknuckle Trilogy Suite. Possibly even an HS-3 or something. Any suggestions?

The Dimarios and BKP you mention are very different beasts. The Dimarzios are stacked (so humbucking) where as the BKPs are true single coils, so prone to hum. For Malmsteen the Dimarzios are the obvious choice, for a great strat type tone, the BKPs.

Re: Dimarzio YJM vs Bareknuckle Trilogy Suite

mmmm its a hard one to say ..... the dimarzio yjm is very low output and for the malmsteen thing you really need an overdriven amp with a overdrive pedal to boost it and maybe a noise gate ... if you used it with a humbucker in the bridge it might not balance very well ,,, i have the malmsteen sig guitar and i would have to set my amps and fx specialy for that guitar ...... but set up right it will give you that sound .... i have not tried the trilogy but have read up on it ,,, bkn are very good so the quality is there ,,,, i own some of the pickups from them ,,,, the trilogy is a very high output pickup that would balance well if you used a humbucker in the bridge and would need less effort to get an amp to overdrive ,,, the down side is , like somebody has mentioned is its a tue single coil so you might get more hum through the amp , you could still use a noise gate mind .... i have a blackmore strat that has duncan quarter pounders in it ( that could be another option ) and find it sounds very very good infact it sounds more like malmsteen than my malmsteen guitar ,,, the duncans are true single coil again and high output ,,, but i do like them alot ... malmsteen uses the hs3 and yjm cos of course they have a single coil sound but also because of the low output ,,,, this low output gives him a clear tone with less hum .
