Distortion pedal reccomendations
Well, I finally bought a new amp, a blackheart head and cab set, and as I mentioned in the other thread I posted, I bought it cos it sounded pretty good with a decent pedal. At the time I was playing it through a boss metalcore pedal, which was alright for the job, but not brilliant, so my thinking is, the sound will only improve with a better pedal.
Can anyone give me some recommendations of good distortion pedals to try out, nothing wildy expensive, but something a little less generic in tone than boss/digitech etc.
Thanks

Re: Distortion pedal reccomendations
modded DS-1's sound good - I have a keeley modded one and its OK, as long as you are not relying on it for all your distortion, its a boost really.
alternatively Damage control make some pretty good sounding pedals.

Re: Distortion pedal reccomendations
He will need a _distortion_ pedal with that amp. It only has one
preamp tube
. For high gain quite a bit of a boost will be required. Unfortunately, the way any given pedal works with an amp is highly amp dependant, and I'm not familiar with the Blackheart.

The Damage control sounds great from the clips ive heard, but its a bit more than Im wanting to spend.
Has anyone tried the blackstar ht-Distx? Or the T-rex bloody mary? Im really curious to see what people whove tired the blackstar think of it, becuase I keep hearing such good things about it.

Re: Distortion pedal reccomendations
try and get the keely moded tubescreamer. Tights your overall sound and can be used as a boost. With
tube amp
only really.

Re: Distortion pedal reccomendations
+1 on TS-9 for boost and overdrive.
I highly recommend the
Radial Tone Bone
Hot British. It is very versatile and allows for MANY different distortion flavors and colors. It is way quieter than the gain channel on my new Mesa F-50 although I don't have the gain on 12 it is still brutal. I usually run my gain at 10 o'clock and have very thick distortion with wonderful sustain and it works wonderfully with my TS-9 (non-modded).

Re: Distortion pedal reccomendations
Well the only pedal I would suggest is the BB Preamp, however its quite expensive, but has great tone.

Re: Distortion pedal reccomendations
Get a Klon Centaur
I would suggest the BB Preamp as well too. It has a little more saturation than my TS9DX, so I think it would fit the bill nicely.

+1 on Damage Control Solid Metal. That pedal is sick. It is the best

I ever had.

Re: Distortion pedal reccomendations
Anyone try the new Metal Core from Boss? I tried it and thought it ate most other non-
tube distortion
pedals for lunch, just MHO

Re: Distortion pedal reccomendations
That was the original pedal I tried out when I was trying out my amp in the shop, it was quite good, but I didnt think it was worth the asking price. I also tried out the Metal Muff (top boost model) the other day, and I wasnt impressed by that either.
I really liked the Solid metal, but its too far out of my budget and I havent seen any going 2nd hand, so I think its going to be between the blackstar ht dist-x and the Krank, think Ill end up buying both and then sending back the one I like least.
Why must I be such a perfectionist when it comes to my distortion.
