I'm thinking about getting into it

Any suggestions?

More importantly, is it fun enough for a guitarist to drop 1200 on DJ gear? I'm a little afraid that since I'm so used to working with melodies and notation and stuff, I'd think its stupid. Kinda like harmonicas lol. Or is it an entirely different (musical) thing?

I'm thinking if I could get good with it, getting gigs would be pretty easy.
