Double Edge Pro question

Hey guys!

It seems that almost a year ago I've misread a line in the JEMsite manual for setting up your floating bridge. What I did was setting the bridge's surface paralel to the surface of the guitar's body instead of setting the knife edge's angle paralel to the surface of the body.

I just tried setting it normally an hour ago, but I changed it back the way it was again because I don't like it the 'normal' way - the action is way too high and I'm affraid I won't get it lowered without having fretbuzz which now I only have on the first fret of the low E.

I know this setting has some disadvantages like:
- Stiff tremelo
- Tight strings (easier to break)
- Less tremelo range
In the manual they also say it jeopardizes the stability or the ability to return to zero-point, in the year that I've had the tremelo setup this way, I didn't experience any problems with this though.

Anywaze, I was wondering if there are any more disadvantages like perhaps wear at the pivot point on the knife edges maybe? Or anything else that might cost me in the future. Also I would like to know where I can order a spare tremelo if this is the case, because I don't want to be in for surprises when the tremelo is worn out and Ibanez doesn't sell the parts anymore.

Thanks!

Re: Double Edge Pro question

You named most of the problems. Rich is always mentioning screwing up the radius as well. If you can't set it normally with reasonable action, then you have something else wrong with your setup. Of course, if it makes you happy, use it that way. I'm not sure if it will cause any significant extra wear to the knife edges. Rich would also be a good source for bridges or parts. Check out his tech setup section while you are there. Click the swirly banner at the top of the page.

Re: Double Edge Pro question

The "Double Edge Pro" and "Double Edge" have different balance points. If you have an "Edge Pro" the top of the tremolo ends up parallel with the face in correct balace position.

These are all for the Lo-Pro Edge/Edge/Double Edge: http://www.jemsite.com/tech/t_1setup.htm#step1

Page 24 of this PDF file lists what an Edge Pro/Double Edge Pro should be like: http://www.ibanez.com/support/manual...ige_manual.pdf
