E-bow

is the E-bow out of fashion now that the sustainers has taken off?
can the e-bow do something the sustainer can't?

A sustainer is pretty much just an on-board Ebow, since it does the same thing. You don't have to sacrifice tone, by way of the neck pickup, if you use an Ebow. But a sustainer is more convenient, since it's built in and, you don't have to worry about hitting the strings with the damn thing. Not to mention the fact, that your picking hand is free to pcik, whammy, or whatever.

The E-bow creates different sounds at different places after where it's held. And you can use it to drone one string.

I'd say that they are gear making use of the same technology, still I don't know which I'd prefer. You can't sweep with a sustainer alone, but you can with an E-bow.

Good point. Hey, what about the differences between the Floyd Rose Sustainer(which was a pickup, like the Fernandez), the Sustainiac(which involved a floor pedal, and a box attached to the back of the headstock), and the Fernandez Sustainer?

All three are pickup-based sustainers. Sustainiac also has the more complex model you mentioned, but their most popular ones seem to be the pickup-based ones that work just like the rest of them.

As far as differences, I think it comes down to versatility (Sustainiac offers many wiring options, while the Fernandes really only offers a couple, and only one if you're buying a kit for an existing guitar instead of buying one of their guitars).

Do you think that any of them work better than the others? I'veonly played a Kramer with the Floyd Sustainer, but heck, that was what, fifteen years ago?

I haven't heard of any differences in performance/tone or anything between the systems. But I know the Sustainiac is usually a favorite for those who want to hide the switches by using push-pull pots instead, and the Fernandes is a favorite for those that just want to put it in the guitar and get going

Oh, and more on topic: Even if I had a sustainer (which I wish I did ) I'd still get an Ebow. In fact, I wish I had one now.
