Effects....

Yo, I'm not sure if this is the right catagory for my question, I couldn't figure it out so I'll give it a shot here.... Anyways...

Anyone listen to Meshuggah? One of their guitarists use this interesting effect that I cannot name, I don't know what it is, its hard to describe, and the best part to hear it is in the song "Neurotica" during the solo. Now my main question is... what effect is that!?!??

Meshuggah is ****ing amazing!!!

Thanks yall! peace

Re: Effects....

Sounds a bit like chorus with the rate turned way up and depth not too deep. Gives it that warbly sound; you can hear the oscillation beats of the chorusing. Actually, you can get pretty dramatic doing the same thing with a phaser... but I think it's chorus in this case. Well, just a guess- give it a try!

Fredrik has been using breath controllers for a long time now. It's a device that enables you to control the parameters of various effects with your breath. Basically, it's like blowing into a wind instrument. The brother of Tomas Haake (Meshuggah's drummer) now builds custom breath controller for Fredrik. They call it the "33". Before that, he used one by Yamaha. Go to the Meshuggah Forum & do a search. It is frequently discussed there.

that sounds sweet... altho that specific sound i asked about in the solo of "Neurotica", i figured out very closely with my Ibanez CF7. But ill search for that breath controller too. Thanks!

The breath controllers are very hard to come by. You can spot a Yamaha version on EvilBay occasionally. Tomas' brother did make a limited run of "33" breath controllers for a select few on the Meshuggah Forum. Do a search on there & you'll find him.

As to the rest of your questions, I answered them on your other Mesh thread.

The breath controller Thorendal uses is built the Thomas Haake's brother.
