Egnater Rebel

After ooing and aweing over the Tourmaster I come to find out about the Rebel which seems to only have been mentioned here a couple of times. I found a vid that demonstrates the Rebel and it looks pretty damn cool to me. I plan on buying BOTH, but I am not sure which one will make it to my home first. Probably the Rebel because I will be purchasing them blindly and it will be a good test run before I drop 1599 on a Tourmaster.

The Rebel is shown in the last third of the video. It looks like it could recieve a boost or distortion pedal and really kick some ass.

Forgive me if you have all seen this before.

Re: Egnater Rebel

Notice the "watts" knob. To my knowledge this will be the first mass produced amp with Power Scaling. This means you'll be able to dial down the output stage to 0.1W and get the power tube(s) to distort at truly bedroom volumes. Cranked Plexi in your bedroom wouldn't be a problem if Marshall used this tech. I may mod my Vintage Modern with power scaling as well - it's ideally suited for that, since the reverb is useless anyway and the reverb control can be easily and non-destructively repurposed as "power" control.

Re: Egnater Rebel

As and added bonus, if it is what I think it is then the life of the output tubes will be drastically extended because of lower voltages and currents.

Re: Egnater Rebel

From what I have gathered the head will go for about 500, Im not sure what the 1x12 cabs will go for.

Other tidbids I have gathered are that it will have an effects loop and that Bruce Egnater has been tweaking the proto since it was shown at NAMM and it will sound even better when it is released. I imagine that is the reason it isnt on the market yet.

Keep in mind that all of my information was taken from a google search and sorting through all of the hits from other forums. I could very well be wrong.

Re: Egnater Rebel

After watching that grainy vid and comparing it to a good picture of the head It seems that the gain knob was only at a little less than 3/4. I would like to hear what it sounded like turned all the way up.

Re: Egnater Rebel

After going to the Egnater amp building seminar and hanging out with Bruce for a weekend, I'm pretty sure that Eganter Rebel has more than enough gain for anyone.

Re: Egnater Rebel

Did you come away with an amp from the seminar? I'd love to have been given a chance to do that but for someone who lives in Alaska, it's not very feasible.

I actually did come back with a great sounding amp. Been wanting to mod it up but never got around to it. Speaking of Alaska, one of the guys that was also at my seminar was actually a stock broker that lived in Alaska and drove all the way over to Detroit for the seminar!

Re: Egnater Rebel

unfortunatly not all of us live on a stock brokers salary. I make a decent living as a fitter/welder on the north slope but I can't imagine doing something like that.

Re: Egnater Rebel

I've read that they are trying to set it up so you can switch tubes via footswitch. That would be sick. This was just in another forum so im not sure how accurate it is.

Re: Egnater Rebel

That would be a great feature. This little guy is going to be awesome. The Valve JR, BlackHeart, Tiny Terror etc. don't interest me at all but the Rebel actually seems to SOUND good.

The Jazz tones sounded good but everything else sounded horrible...

Re: Egnater Rebel

I like the concept, but its really hard to judge how it sounds off of that one clip from namm. Cant wait till these hit GC.

I agree, the valve Jr is a joke. I just returned the one I had for a while. I tried really hard to like it but there wasn't much there. Havent tried the blackheart and the Tiny Terror but on features alone the Rebel is definitely more interesting.
