Eventide GTR 4000 - Does anyone here actually own one?

Does anyone here actually own a GTR 4000? *I've never test driven one and am wanting feedback from people I quasi-know. *I can't really take the H-C reviews too seriously. *I'm really interest in the delays, reverbs and choruses.

Thanks!

Eventide GTR 4000

I have worked pretty extensively with the 4000 model. *I have the stepdown version (if I may call it that!) the H3000. *

Honest to your god, it is pretty darn neato!...really though, the control over the algorithms just really stun me. *You can tweak away til you drop your left nut really! *

You can chain the effects, tweak the effects in the chain, and add parameters to the effects that are already in the chain.....and with a little time (when I got my first Eventide about 5 years ago) it took about a good couple of weeks averaging a few hours a night to learn the manual inside and out and understand what gets tweaked and how to go into those parameters via shortcuts and stuff. *It really is worth it though if you have the dough..it's multitalented! *
Not that I would discourage the GTR4000 but here are my two gripes against it.

1.) It's onboard pre-amp is not the greatest, yes, it is eventide, but their forte were the algorithms behind the effects not their pre-amps...the distortions especially are nice IF YOU LIKE industrial rock/metal...they are that 'metal-tinny' sounding...but the effects are the Eventide standard.

2.) Price wise, you are better off laying of the pre-amp portion and get a 3000 series. There is so much the 3000 series has right off of the bat off of the gtr4000. The gtr4000 has more spacial effects and time based effects geared towards guitar, but nothing you cant create based off of the algorithms given to you in the 3000 series..and if you REALLY REALLY wanted those algorithms, you can send the unit back to Eventide and have them install the EPROM chip with those sounds for a nominal charge.

I stand solid next to my Eventide NOT JUST for my guitar effects, but also for vocals, drums, keyboards...it is an extremely versatile piece of outboard gear which is worth experimenting with and owning if you got the cash.....the trick is to look for it EVERYWHERE, I have been VERY LUCKY in getting very good deals on the ones that I have bought. I paid under $$900.00!! for one in MINT condition....

www.harmonycentral.com is a good place and www.digibid.com is another great place.

Oh and to add to your comment....the choruses, reverb, and flange are to die for on the eventide units...WOW!

Eventide GTR 4000

O'kay.... Yes I love my eventide also.....

I have the h3000 dsx *which is a model they came out with a couple of years ago. The effects are awesome.

I am endorsed by eventide. I got my at the artist price, which is still up there. They do not give any thing away totally free to naybody. But it helped my pocket.

I never tried the gtr 4000, but i heard great things...
It does take time to learn about the unit though....
I am not a tech head... so it takes me some time to work through it... I still have not experimented enough...

For Mantra I used my eventide... Plus they sent me to other units... h3000 ds ... like 3 of them.Plus my producer had his... so we used it all over Mantra.
On the drums.... and guitars...

Eventide GTR 4000

I've been toying with the idea of buying an Eventide to replace my Intellifex (which I love). *But here in the UK they are sooo expensive, and very hard to come by, too. *I have not had the chance to play with one, so tell me, are they really so superior than everything else? *Obviuosly in a studio environment I can appreciate that the quality would speak for itself, but what about in a small gig setup? *Would I end up divorcing my Intellifex?

Eventide GTR 4000

Thanks for the replies, fellas. *I'll be using it mainly for the effects as I have a Marshall JMP-1 preamp so I won't be using the GTR4000 as a preamp. *I can't totally say that I won't use them though because I haven't heard them! * As for getting a 3000 over the GTR4000, I think I'll stick with getting the GTR4000. *It has quite a few of the older effects built into it and since it has a memory card slot Eventide offers upgrades to it such as the preset library from the DSP4000 Studio Preset Library. *They also have a GTR II Guitar Preset Library and a few others for broadcasting. *Pretty cool. *I might have one after 4 years of drooling!

Thanks again!

Eventide GTR 4000

I had a GTR 4000 for a while and found it to be complete overkill. The quality of effects were good and the amount of control over them was phenominal, but it just seemed like too much power. My focus was on having effects that sound good but were simple to implement. I ended up selling the Eventide to buy a Lexicon unit, which was cheaper, easier to use, and has worked just as well for my studio/performance applications.

If you're interested in those "way out there" sounds, however, the Eventide is a pretty cool box. Everything you play can sound like "Alien Water Kiss"! For a while, that was my thing, but once I wanted to be able to hear my guitar tone again, the Eventide seemed like way too much.

My $0.02, as always.
