Sorta related question:
in the song "Unchained" there's a very prominent effect that sounds sort of like a flanger or a phaser (except like the best flanger ever, like what a regular flanger is
trying to sound like,) but seems like the the TAB I've seen (from Guitar For The Practicing Musician) notates it as being done with only pick slides... and when I attempt to do that, I can sorta get a fair approximation, and bonus that there's no worries about getting the phaser or flanger's rising and falling in sync, 'cause there isn't any flanger....) but I read an interview with EVH and he said something about using an
MXR Phase 90 "now that we're doing some old tunes like Unchained..." or something like that, so then that made me think mayber there is a phaser in there after all.
So, is that effect in Unchained done by a flanger or phaser? Or is it done with pick slides? Or maybe it's done with both at the same time?
Just something I've been wondering for a long time.
(Maybe the extra button starts the thing at the beginning of it's rising (or falling) cycle so you can get it into sync with the music? Or a tap tempo type thing? Just a wild guess.) Edit: I see now that's not what the button does.
