Fernandes Sutainer Kit

Has anybody bought one of these yet? Seems like a good kit but whats with th e complete circuit board with volume tone ans sustainer intensity knobs, driver, battery, humbucker and single coil looking joby? If you want to wire this into your Jem does thta mean you have to rip all the existing pickups and wiring out and replace with this complete kit?

To install the Fernandes kit, you will have to do some decent modifications (and routing) to your guitar. The single coil size driver can be used next to a single size humbucker, and they recommend that you use their bridge pickup. You will also have to rout an area for the circuit board.

You may also want to look into the Sustainiac Stealth kit (www.sustainiac.com). You won't have to do any routing for a board, and you may be able to fit the battery under the pickguard (or route a small spot in the trem spring cavity. Two big advantages to the Stealth kit: better flexability with other pickup choices, and since it is a smaller company, they are very quick to respond to questions.

Check out both units. I have, and the differences are minimal. Listen to the sound samples and read up (the Sustainiac site will answer all your questions).

Cheers,
Butch

So let me get this straight. Steve uses the Fernandes kit in FLO - Does he not have his EVO pickups in FLO then and are they the Fernandes humbucker at the Bridge or neck? i'm confused. Surely this would affect his overall sound a lot?

You don't have to use the Fernandes pickup with the Fernandes sustainer, your stock bridge pickup will work fine. But you'll still have to do some routing for the circuit board, extra knob and switches, etc.

What does steve do for the neck pickup though? I can't tell what's really going on there.
