Getting that sisters 'spank'

Here is my rig.

99 UV777BK -> Ernie Ball volume -> Boss SD-1 -> Carvin TN100 -> Peavey 31 Band EQ -> MosValve MV-962

Distortion sound is great with the SD-1, but I find the clean a little thin. Any suggestions to fatten it up and get the spanky sound like Sisters? Thanks.

I think the "spank" there comes from power tube clipping, for which you'll need a tube power amp. Maybe Himself will chime in and advise.

I was thinking that might be it. Maybe a new power amp is in order.

I agree, a compressor will get you close. Also a lot cheaper than a new amp

Use position 2 or 4 where you get the sound of two single coils...its the closest it's gotten me, that and a compressor; And I use a solid state amp.

Try running it through a DI box into a mixing desk. And definately use single coils.

And you can never have too many amps - (6 and counting)

I've gotten pretty damn close with the single coil settings on an RG with Dimarzios, into the clean channel of a tube amp cranked to a crunchy tone but then with the guitar's volume backed off about 1/3. Add a little compression, BBE Sonic Maximizer and digital reverb to taste and voila! But as Doink suggests, I think Steve recorded that one direct into the board, prolly through a Neve tube preamp judging by how much he raved about it at the time.

Petrucci's clean tone is nice too on Images and Words. Do you think his volume is rolled back a little for that? I know its a Triaxis.
