I don't know how much this is gonna help but...
It pays to have a good
power amp. I had a Carvin DCM300? (I believe, I can't even remeber what is was anymore, a shop I sent it to to get it fixed went out of business and I have never seen it since...).
With the same set-up, I got a Mesa Simul 2:90. Big, big, big difference.
Way less rated wattage, but louder, fuller, fatter, and better sounding.
So, you can get great effects, but with my experience, if you don't have a halfway decent power amp, you've wasted your time.
A decent power amp with a decent effects processor is better than a killer effects processor with a POS amp, and vice versa.
